This store was also designed to help officers with their departmental needs. Sgt. Ritchie was later promoted to lieutenant and became manager of the Bell gift shop. Bell is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Inland Empire metropolitan area. The community was named after Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone and other communication devices. The post office was first opened in 1892. A railroad station served the town until it closed in 1971. Bell was founded on September 15, 1892 by Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Eliza Rogers Roebuck Bell as a small farming hamlet on the edge of what is now incorporated as Kern Valley. They named their place "Bellevue" after George Washington's Mount Vernon estate in Virginia where he and his family were staying when they first heard about America's new nation. Bellevue grew rapidly due to its strategic location: just south of the San Joaquin Valley near Bakersfield and Fresno; east of Stockton; north of Redding; and west of Visalia. By 1915, Bellevue had a population of 1,500 people and a schoolhouse which served grades one through twelve (latergraded to high school). In 1916 General Electric built an electric generating station onshore for use by Bellevue residents before moving it to its current site across Hwy 99 from Belmont Village in 1984. In 1919-1920 Wacoalco Manufacturing Company established operations at Bellevue while assigned by GE to build radios for military service during World War I. The company ceased operations shortly afterwards However, some remnants remain today as Wacoalco Radio Corporation.

Bell, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The town was founded by George Bell and his wife Emmeline on January 24, 1868, as a result of the Donation Land Act of 1851. The town was named after John H. Bell, one of the original settlers.The village had a population of just over 100 people when it incorporated as a city in 1907. In 1916, the city merged with nearby Auburn to form what is now known as Contra Costa County. The history of Bell begins with George Bell and his wife Emmeline who came from England in 1846 and1847 respectively. They decided to immigrate to America because they saw the opportunity for progress and opportunity here. They arrived at Ellis Island on October 14th, 1848 and soon started farming near present day Roscoe Village which then encompassed all that is now Belltown including what is today’s downtown area. Mrs. Bell played an important role in promoting education in this area which led to the establishment of many early schools including Magnolia School (later renamed Hastings Academy), East Side High School & Junior College (now part of UC Berkeley), and finally Central High School where she taught school until her death in 1903 at age 84 years old. George Bell continued farming until he sold land east of Roscoe Village to James Wetherill in 1865 for $2 per acre ($100 total). This property would later be developed into what is now DowntownBelltown which began development around 1915 when Mayor Harry Povich persuaded developer Julius Rosenwald Jr., also a native Californian born inside Los Angeles County, to invest money into developing this undeveloped area surrounding Lake Merritt southward from Interstate 5 between 2nd Street/Merritt Avenue and 3rd Street/Emmeline Boulevard along present day University Avenue between Park Boulevard and Ransom Way NW.. Mayor Povich also convinced several other local businessmen to invest time into making DowntownBelltown an attractive place for businesses with its wide streetscape width allowed only six vehicular traffic lanes on three sides plus much more pedestrian access than normal residential areas adjacent to I-5 highway allowing automobile traffic only during peak hours from 7am-11pm daily while pedestrians could bike or walk between destinations within minutes during off peak hours.. This vision became reality thanks largely to Julius Rosenwald Jr., Harry Povich, Frederick Tilton Sr., Clarence Kapp Jr., Floyd Beers III & others who made DowntownBelltown one of Northern California’s most vibrant neighborhoods through their investment over many years culminating in its reopening as an official business district by City Manager Raymond Jaffe on July 1st, 1986
