Bellflower, California is a small town in the Santa Clara Valley of California. The population was 9,027 at the 2010 census. It is located east of San Francisco on State Route 101. The name "Bellflower" was given to the community by telephone company employees who saw a bell-shaped flower in bloom near their work site. The flowers were so beautiful that they named the area after them. The first post office opened in Bellflower on October 25, 1911. The community continued to grow rapidly and by 1920 had a population of 20 residents. In 1928, the county seat moved from San Jose to Bellflower and it has remained as its current location ever since. Bellflower is a small town located in Kern County, California, United States. It was established in 1887 by J.D. Beale and the Beale family, who ranched on their land until it was sold to the government for development in 1916. The name of the town comes from Bellflower Avenue, which runs through it. The first settler in what is now Bellflower were James Ahern and his family who arrived around 1887. The Aherns raised chickens and cattle on their property until 1889 when they sold it to John D. Beale for $2 per acre ($4 at current prices). Mr. Beale had been interested in purchasing land east of Bakersfield since he had seen an advertisement for a ranch called Rancho San Antonio de la Alameda which would soon be developed into Kern County. Beale began development of Rancho San Antonio with his brother-in-law George Armstrong as his foreman but problems arose due to lack of water and grazing rights along the creek that would later become known as Apache Road (now SR 99). In 1911, Mr. Beale donated 4,000 acres (1 km²) of his land to the community for use as a public park including access to Apache Road and alluvial soils rich in gold and other minerals that lay underneath the surface at that time; this donation has been cited as one of the earliest examples of urban renewal projects in Southern California history. In 1925, Mrinalini Sengupta became manager of Villa Park Reservoir after she became Manageriosa's president from 1923- 1926; her husband Atanasoff also served as manager during this time period; Villa Park was also home to Pauly's grocery store from 1915-1925 before moving uptown to 222 E Street). Villa Park eventually became too large for its own management so Mrs Sengupta purchased it from Atanasoff in 1955 for $5 million dollars (). Mrs Sengupta continued managing Villa Park until her death in 1975() after which ownership passed down through four generations of women managers before finally being turned over to city officials () who continue manage it today ().
