The Benicia Air Force Base gift history begins in the early 1940s when a group of officers and men from nearby San Francisco donated their time and resources to help build the airbase. The airbase would serve as a training ground for pilots and bombers during World War II, and it would also play an important role in the Cold War. Today, Benicia AFB is one of the busiest military installations in California, with more than 24,000 active duty military personnel and 6,000 civilians working at the base. In recent years, the air force has made some significant donations to local charities. In 2012, they donated $225,000 to help improve homelessness services in Benicia. In 2016, they donated $1 million towards research into Alzheimer’s disease. And in 2018, they announced that they were donating $10 million towards community redevelopment initiatives across California.
Benicia is a city in the state of California, United States. The population was 34,711 at the 2010 census. Benicia is located on the east side of San Joaquin Valley and is bordered by Stockton to the north, Modesto to the east, Livermore to the south and Sacramento to the west. The city's nickname is "The City of Roses." The first European settlement in what would become Benicia was by Spanish missionaries in 1777. The name Benicia may be derived from an Ohlone word meaning "place where rose bushes grow." In 1831, Benjamin Mariano Vallejo founded Rancho Valentinespecio which became part of Mexico after it became part of California during Mexican–American War. In 1849, Alvarado purchased Rancho El Cuchillo from José Joaquín Murrieta for $10,000 and named it Benicia after his wifeBenícia Guerra Alvarez who had married him while he was governor of Californias central valley. On November 3rd, 1850 Alvarado sold land that formed today's downtown area including much of present day Bernal Heights to James Neely Richardson for $5 per acre (or $1 per lot). Richardson named his new town Richardsonville after General John Richardson who fought with American forces against Mexican forces at Buena Vista Hill on October 22nd, 1847. In 1861 when American Civil War began there were only 8 inhabitants in what is now Downtown Benicia according to pioneer George Atherton; this number increased dramatically when gold discovery began in nearby Stockton and Downtown Benicia became known as Gold Country because so much gold was found hereabouts. By 1865 there were more than 3000 residents living in Downtown Benicia and most notably many African Americans working as laborers on various ranching operations throughout Northern California during this time period including those operated by General John Sutter starting around 1868-1870 near modern-day Daly City which later became North Berkeley

The American military had been observing Russian forces in the area for years, so it was only natural that they would start their own air force. On July 26, 1919, Congress passed an act establishing the USAF with a five-member board. The first Chief of Staff was Major General James Vail. The USAF was founded on September 17, 1949 when President Harry S Truman signed legislation creating it as a separate branch of government within the US Armed Forces. It wasn’t until 1958 that jets began being used in combat against Communist insurgents in Vietnam. In 1969, president Richard Nixon ordered all U.S troops out of South Vietnam and disbanded the USAF along with most other branches of government within two years. The last USAF jet pilot flew his last mission on October 3rd, 1975 while stationed at MacDill AFB in Florida after more than 36 years flying operations!

Benicia is a city in the U.S. state of California and the county seat of Santa Clara County. The population was 117,571 at the 2010 census, making Benicia one of the most populous cities in California. It is also home to major companies such as Google, Apple Inc., and Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors. Benicia is located on the north shore of San Francisco Bay on an arm of Yerba Buena Island. The first Europeans to visit what is now Benicia were Spanish traders led by Gaspar de Portolà in 1769 while exploring Monterey Peninsula. On October 11, 1821, United States Navy Commodore John Bogue anchored at benicio d’arca (now called Battery Park) in what is now downtown Benicia after a voyage from Sacramento following news that Mexico had ceded Alta California to America under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The first permanent American settlement was founded on December 1, 1846 when James Wickersham erected a adobe stagecoach stop known as Wickersham's Fort on current Earls Street in what is now downtown Benicia. In 1848, Captain Elisha Beecher established an inland sea port here which became known as Beecher's Landing because it served as an outlet for lumber and other goods coming downriver from Northern California during winters when navigation was difficult or impossible; this area later became Point Reyes National Seashore . A post office was established at Beecher's Landing on January 16, 1850, and named for Captain Elisha Beecher; it continued until May 25, 1892 when it changed its name to Benicia after then-Governor general George Cascadden BENICIUS). The first store opened here in 1851 by Julius Salkuthian landlord Tom Doherty Sr.; it closed about 1865 due to competition from stores sprouting up throughout town including one started by Nelsons brothers John and Peter Norton (). In 1862–1863 Ulysses S. Grant visited this region while campaigning for election as president; upon his return he recommended that part of Alta California be apportioned among United States territories based on population size so that more could be developed relatively unimpeded by Mexican interests (). On November 12–13, 1863 General Order No.–3 issued by President Abraham Lincoln orders all troops east of the Ohlone Mountains must leave their posts within six weeks (), starting with those stationed at Fort Bridger () along with all remaining troops under Lieutenant Colonel Edward Doniphan (). One week later another order ordered all forces west of Manning Pass () must leave () within two weeks (); these orders resulted in much disruption as many soldiers did not know how to operate their cannons or warships (). This forced Major General Nathaniel Lyon (), commander of Army Division IV Corps ()) to take over command situationally from Doniphan (); Lyon eventually decided against pursuing Mexican forces southward into Californio (). Aftermaths included violence (), looting (), and troop movements across wide areas (); today some historians consider these events part of Mexico's "North American Revolution" against American rule over Alta California . This period has been called "the springtimeofAltaCalifornia" because various large projects were initiated during this time including irrigation systems for agriculture and development proper infrastructure like roads (such as State Route 16), water supplies (like Mission Creek Dam), schools (including University Hall), hospitals ( notably Stinson Beach Hospital ), factories (), etc.; watchtowers built near rivers like Coyote Creek () symbolized military strength while churches dotting every landscape testified both to Christianity's role in society() and local support for Republican Party candidates(). A few years later ranching began replacing farming as mainstay economic activity; cattle drives brought settlers into present-day downtownBenicia along Coyote Creek where they would build homes before moving out again throughout most or all seasons (). From 1911 through 1920 there was significant growth around Anheuser-Busch Brewery headquarters located just off center Broadway Avenue ()); today much offshoot business activity takes place nearby inside old brewery grounds including industrial manufacturing operations such as pharmaceuticals (+ Eli Lilly & Co.), printing (+ Hearst Corporation), food processing (- Tyson Foods Company), software development (- Salesforce LLP)), vehicle production (+ Ford Motor Company)
Benicia was founded in 1795 by Antonio José de Benicia and his wife, María Luisa Páez. It became a city in 1836. The first post office in the city was established in 1837. Benicia is named for General Francisco Javier Benítez y Menéndez, who led the Mexican army against the United States during the California Gold Rush of 1848.
