Benicia (formerly Benicia, California) is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 77,571 at the 2010 census. The legacy of early Spanish settlers and their descendants who arrived during the mid-19th century has made Benicia one of the most diverse cities in Northern California. It is home to two universities and four professional sports teams: the Earthquakes of Major League Soccer (MLS), the A's of American Baseball (AAA), and the Pacific Coast Hockey League's San Francisco Seals. The first Europeans to come to what is now Contra Costa County were Mexican traders travelling down the Sacramento River in 1846. They named their new land Rancho Cotobato after General Antonio Mesa Cotobano, an army officer who had fought for Mexico against Ulysses S. Grant in 1847. One year later, on July 10, 1849,Benicia was founded by Captain George Watkins and his brother David Watkins with help from Mission San José de las Americas Governor Manuel Nieto y Costilla as a small trading post onshore at Point Reyes Lagoon northeast of modern-day Hercules. In 1860 it became a town with a population of 100 people when it was part of Alameda County; when Contra Costa County was created on January 1, 1896 its boundaries changed back to those that had been used when Alameda COUNTY was constituted The first schools in Benicia were built in 1865 by Father José de Jesús Serra as part of a series of Catholic missions near Point Reyes Light on Marin Bayou. After several more mission-built schools were constructed through 1867–68 by various clergymen including Father José Gomez y Gomez and Father Anacleto Carrera—the last being replaced by an brick school building erected1872 by Reverend Hennepin MacLaren—the town began receiving students from outside its immediate vicinity. Today’s Benicia Elementary School opened attendance records for public elementary schools around North America for 1970/71 academic year when just 54 children from neighboring towns attended school together…. boys attending girls’ public high school took off about 1953….. kindergarten through 8th grade started here about 1955….. middle school started here about 1957….. 8th grade graduating classes moved into our current buildings across Main Street from where we stood until 1996…… today our primary source for instruction comes not only from parents but also daycare providers thru our certificated pre-kindergarten program which prepares kids academically while they are developing social skills

Guns have been around since before humans even lived on earth, and it is safe to say that they have had a profound impact on our way of life and culture overall. Firearms have helped us protect ourselves from harm both inside our homes and outside thereof, as well as allow us to wage war against others we may not be ableto physically fight against (though this has always been difficult). In 1842 rancho Vallejo was sold to Francisco Estrada y Saenz who named it Benicia after his fatherBenito Estrada y Saenz. Benjamin Franklin had owned some land adjacent to where modern day downtown stands when he bought it from Sanchez in 1800 for $1/acre (0.40 ha). In 1847 two brothers by the name of Wigglesworth took over the property north of Main Street and developed it into a town with a population of fifty people called New Venice because that's how they pronounced "Venice". They laid out streets and built homes using adobe bricks which they brought down from Mexico City on their horseback cartloads. Their townsite was located northeast of what is now Downtown Benici
