The first coffee roasters in Beverly Hills were Dutchman Hendrik de Vries and his brother, Jan de Vries. They started roasting beans on their own premises on Wilshire Boulevard, just north of Sunset Boulevard. By the late 1800s, however, coffee had become a popular commodity and demand for high-quality beans grew out ofLos Angeles’ large Italian population. By 1912, Hearst Corporation had bought the Dutchman Hendrik de Vries company and renamed it Koffiekampen (later Starbucks). At first, Starbucks only roast Java beans; but soon they began to produce other types of coffee as well. In 1913, they opened their first store in Century City on Westwood Drive. Soon thereafter they opened stores throughout Southern California as well as Mexico City and Caracas Venezuela. In 1923 Starbucks became an American Tobacco Company subsidiary. In 1927 celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay founded his eponymous restaurant in London’s Mayfair district with two espresso machines imported from Italy by British entrepreneur Julius Strandberg – one of which was used at Rackham’s Cafe Royal where Ramsay served breakfast before starting BBC cooking programmes later that year. One day while working there he discovered raw Ethiopian wawa coffee being roasted nearby by a team led by Ali Baba himself – an event that has been documented in films such as Ali Baba & The Forty Thieves (1935) and Alice Cooper's Troublemaker (1969). From its inception until 1974 Koffiekampen (now Starbucks) operated under three different names: Brown Derby Roastery/ Caféicultura San Pablo/El Nino Coffeehouse/(formerly Pabst Brewery Cafeteria)/San Pablo Avenue Cafeteria/(formerly Hollywood Lumber & Saw Mill Warehouse)/La Bottega del Caffe Nero.(the black horse cafe house)). Many people incorrectly assume that these were simply aliases used temporarily while another business was registered or something similar like that... However this is not true! These were actual business names used during specific years while Koffiekampen was actually operating under 3 different legal entities!!! During World War II cafés such as El Nino Coffeehouse were utilized by military personnel for hot food services purposes including sandwiches and chocolates between meals... This continues into today at many military bases worldwide where canteen programs still exist today
