There have been Marines deployed to Beverly Hills, California since the early days of the Marine Corps. The first Marines arrived in 1875 and were stationed at Camp Pendleton. In 1898, the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines departed for Haiti and became the first unit to arrive in that country. They were discharged in 1902. From 1904 through 1916, they served as part of the 5th Marine Regiment in the Philippines during World War I. They returned home in 1919 and remained at Camp Pendleton until 1930 when they deploy to China as part of American forces fighting against Japan. During their time in China, they united with other units from various countries to form a Unit 1431 and fought throughout World War II as part of Admiral Chester Nimitz’s Pacific Fleet. After World War II ended, they continued to serve at Camp Pendleton until 1946 when they deployed along with other units to Korea as part of Operation Prairie Fire. They returned home after two years and remain there today along with other Marine units which include Headquarters Detachment 2-5 Marines (HD2-5) based out of San Diego County National Guard Armory Annex on Harbor Drive in North Hollywood; Battalion Landing Teams 3rd/4th MEF headquartered at Marine Barracks Quantico; Light Anti-Aircraft battery #1 located at Fort MacArthur; 1st Reconnaissance Squadron Marine Aircraft Group 9 located at Da Nang AB, Vietnam; 3rd/4th amphibious brigade based out of Iwo Jima Island; Artillery battalion also headquartered ashore at Hagushi AB near Okinawa Prefecture; Air Defense Command’s Twelfth Air Force headquarters locatedat Eielson AFB Alaska In addition to its history within the military community itself, Beverly Hills has also been host to many civilian events over the years including a variety of music festivals, fashion shows, art exhibitions and more recently an NBA Finals game between Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics

The name change to Beverly Hills occurred on October 15 of that year when the original boundaries were adjusted to include what is now downtown Los Angeles. The population of Beverly Hills grew rapidly from its early years through the 1920s and 1930s due to increased immigration and development along Mulholland Drive and other parts of westside Los Angeles County. Many Hollywood stars had their homes in or near Beverly Hills during this time including William Hutton (the father of Kate), Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Jesse James (the brother-in-law of Mary Pickford),immediate predecessors to both King Kong and Godzilla

Beverly Hills was founded in 1911 by William P. Irvine as a small community on the edge of Los Angeles. The city's name is derived from its location at the mouth of the Santa Monica River, which forms part of Beverly Hills' eastern border. By 1925, Beverly Hills had grown to include a adjacent suburban area and had become one of Hollywood's most popular entertainment destinations. In 1942, during World War II, Beverly Hills became an all-rainbow zone under military occupation; all other areas in the city were blacked out. After the war ended, many white residents moved into Beverly Hills while African Americans continued to reside in neighboring neighborhoods such as South Gate and Westwood. Today, Beverly Hills is home to more than 100k people who live in over 170 buildings including several high-end hotels and shopping malls.
In 1919, Beverly Hills was purchased by citrus farmer George Arnell from his father. The following year, Arnell built a mansion on the property which he named Beverly Hills House. He continued to operate the fruit farm until his death in 1949. In 1959, Beverly Hills House was sold and demolished to make way for the Helmsley Plaza hotel.
