The town's namesake may be Bachelor Grant Brawley who served as a US Representative from 1951-1957 and as Mayor of Brawley (1960-1966). The title "Bachelor Grant" stuck because he never married and hispanic sounding name was used by all political figures in the community for years afterwards. Bravo Hondo High School is located in Brawley and provides education to students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. There are also two Elementary schools - one being Hacienda Vista Elementary School which serves grades K-5th and one being Corona Middle School which serves grades 6-8th. In addition to Bravo HS, there are two other high school institutions located in the town - Midvale Community College & Valley Christian College both offering associate degree programs in Business Administration, Science/Technology/Engineering and Liberal Arts/Science courses respectively.

Brawley is a small town in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno–Madera metropolitan area. The name Brawley comes from Spanish meaning " promised land." The first people to live in what is now Brawley were the Juros who came overland from Mexico in 1799 as part of the Mexican-American War. They named their town San Francisco after General José Antonio de las Armas y Costilla, an important Mexican general during the war and father of Francisco Xavier García Márquez. In 1853, a group of farmers led by government agent H.W. McDonald decided to develop Brawley into a village and renamed it for themselves: McDonaldville after H.W.'s brother-in-law, Colonel George McDonald (1824-1900). The original platted community consisted of about fifty homes and two stores on side streets between Old Alameda and Third Streets near present day Visalia Road. In 1865, when California became a state, Brawley's post office was moved from San Bernardino to Brawley with mail being transported one mile each way between these two post offices until 1887 when Ute Pass Railway connected them together making this trip much shorter! During World War II many residents volunteered for military service including providing goods necessary for production at Clark Air Force Base; they also raised money through bake sales and car wash nights to help Cairo Hills munitions plants contribute directly to our war effort which helped reduce reliance on foreign oil sources which contributed significantly to our economy during that time period
