For every dollar donated by consumers through sponsorships or donations alone during 1944-1945, Rogers received an additional $1 million dollars into his foundation’s coffers! By 1948 the Roger’s Foundation had distributed over $40 million to groups benefiting veterans across America! Thiswas without question one of Americas greatest philanthropic endeavors ever!

In 1872, the first post office called Brawley was opened under the name of Independence; it continued to be used until 1905. In 1886, John Siska started a flour mill in Brawley that became one of the largest flour mills in California. Today there are still several businesses in Brawley that continue to produce quality products such as clothing and food products. Some famous residents or natives of Brawley include former Mayor Harvey Milk (1928-1978), Congressman Bob Ney (R-Ohio) (1983-1996), Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (1988-2005), author Lenny Bruce (1935-1999), businessman Jerry Wexler (1911-1994) and actor/director Clint Eastwood (1946-2018). Brawley, California was founded in 1871 by George Brawley and his wife Nancy. The town was named after theBattle of Buena Vista, which took place on October 25, 1846 between Mexican forces loyal to Mexico and American forces under General Don Carlos Manuel de la Mesa y Ortega. The battle resulted in a Mexican victory and thelos Mexican soldiers were able to take refuge within the U.S.A., where they continued fighting against American troops until their defeat at Buena Vista in 1848. Afterward, Brawley became a leading cattle rancher in the area and helped promote ranching as an important economic activity in California. He also donated land to establish Cal State University at Brawley in 1902. In 1916, Brawley died at age 93 years old and is buried at the nearby Mount Wilson Cemetery.
