In Brawley, California, the navy has a long and proud history dating back to World War II. The city was named for Rear Admiral George H. W. Brawley, who served in the Navy during the war and later became head of naval intelligence in California. The first ship of the navy in San Diego was USS Constitution (1897), which served until 1898. In 1903, USS Olympia (1907) was built to replace Constitution and served until 1912. In 1911, USS Mare Island (1920) was commissioned into service as the first cruisers of the navy. From 1922-1945, San Francisco underwent a large expansion with new construction including two destroyers- dockside at Hunters Point and a new Naval Air Station – now known as Pier 21 – on Treasure Island. Since then, San Francisco has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in America due to its active duty naval forces as well AsBrawley's rich maritime history makes it an ideal place to host sailors from all over the world who come take part in events like Independence Day fireworks displays or Fleet Week celebrations
Brawley is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is located within Bakersfield metropolitan area. The name "Brawley" originated from the Cahuilla word "bray" which means "to run away." The first settler in what is now Brawley was James Hance who settled in 1859. John and Emma Rogers were the first white women to live in Brawley when it was platted in 1863. The post office at this location operated from 1865 until 1870 under the name of Reddingville. In 1876, Jno. Hance built a adobe cabin on what is now Main Street and named it after his father-in-law, David Bradley (1814-1881). David Bradley had come to California with his family from Kentucky in 1849 and had since been landowner and trader in Kern County. He married Ruth Hance on December 12, 1860, and they moved into their new home near Big Bear Creek just east of present day Brawley High School Road. They raised two children there: James Bradley (1868-1957)and wife Nellie (1913-)James also served as school trustee for years before his death in 1957 At that time Bakersfield had only one high school; so he became its firstever teacher! In 1912, Wm & Mabel Fenton established a flourmill here which still stands today producing whole wheat flour for local restaurants including Topo Chico’s Cafeteria and Donnybrook Hotel! In 1974 an IMAX theater opened here called “Civic Center” which offered movie screenings throughout Kern County free of charge to all residents! On January 15th 1966 local resident Edna Arguello organized a bake sale to help finance her community center project costing $5,000!!! This event marked the beginning of what would become known as “the Arguello era” as she led many other initiatives such as becoming president/CEO of the Kern County Federation of Homebuilders/ Builder's Association & later serving as Mayor pro Tem during both Joe Biden's gubernatorial campaigns! In 1990s rock band Lenny Bruce played at Civic Center occasionally filling up the auditorium due to lack of available seating elsewhere! On September 25th 1998 Nirvana performed at Civic Center supporting their new album Smells Like Teen Spirit!! It was actually their last performance ever before they disbanded effective that day!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been reported that civic center management has been considering demolishing it for years but have yet to make any final decisions!!! There are plans underway by developer Dave Kappenhorn to purchase the property & raze all traces of Civic Center history while creating an adjacent mixed use development called “The Commons”!!!!

It marked an important milestone in American naval aviation as it presented Rear Admiral Robert Ewald USN with his first aircraft carrier – an event that helped solidify America’s dominance over Europe during World War II. The ship also served as a symbol of American might during wartime and was later used as a training platform for future commanders-in-chief. Thanks to President Roosevelt’s significant donation, this vessel has gone through many reincarnations over time, most recently being reactivated as USS Enterprise Museum which residences at Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California USA. 2) The USS Nimitz Christening Gift from Emperor Hirohito in 1949 was another momentous occasion for the navy. Brawley is a small town located in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,914 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. It was founded by Native Americans in 1847 and named for General James Brawley, who had fought against Mexico in 1846. The post office at Brawley opened on February 8, 1848, and remained open until it closed on October 15, 1951. The community has been home to a variety of businesses and organizations throughout its history. In 1938, the Mr. Kite store was built in what is now the downtown core of Brawley. This store became one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town during its time as a tourist destination for locals and visitors alike. Other notable businesses that have operated in or near Brawley over the years include: Don Pedro's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina (now defunct), Pueblo Viejo Tavern (now defunct), Hardware Store #5 (now defunct), Mrs. Pingree's Bakery (formerly known as Mrs. Naylor's Bakery & Creamery), J&J Supermarket (which merged with PETCO to form PepsiCo USA Inc.), First Christian Church (founded by George Washington Wright Sr., which remains active today) and Laborers' National Bank #1 (opened in 1907). In recent decades, much emphasis has been placed on farming activities within Brawley’s confines; however, many residents still lace their feet into boots each morning for work outside of their homes despite temperatures hovering around 100 degrees Fahrenheit all summer long! Today’s Main Street features several local microbreweries as well as two Target stores – oneanchored at anchor locations – which provide retail opportunities for more than 1,500 customers per day!
Brawley is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Brawley was John McMahan in 1875. He and his family founded a farmstead on a tract of land that they purchased from Juan Corona and others near present-day Lompoc. The McMahans lived there until 1886 when they sold their holdings to Wm. Henson for $1,000 cash. According to historical records, early residents included Jno.Cox who platted the area in 1887; Cplt James Ayer who filed for homesteads in 1890; Chas Fenton who patented Lots #2 & 3 April 1893; Averill Coutts November 1895; Geo Waddell May 1898; Hiram Bunker Hill February 1899; Wm Dixon June 1902 and Elisha Dolan October 1903. In 1907, an act were passed by the State Legislature authorizing the erection of schools in Kern County and within three years over 1,500 school students had been graduated from primary and secondary schools located throughout Kern County including Brawley with one high school (now defunct) opened on December 14th 1907 by then Superintendent of Schools Drury Mardon as part of larger educational initiative known as "The Great School Movement". At this time there were only 8 graded public schools operating within Kern County while over 100 private institutions offer education services here including 2 prep schools operated by local LDS families during the 1920s-1930s which remain extant today as Moroni High School & Morrison Middle School respectively. An addition to Brawley's history occurred with World War II when it became home to several military installations such as Camp Edwards Army Airfield used by both American forces and Japanese Imperial Japanese Army troops during World War II before being surrendered on September 6th 1945 following Japan's surrender at Endura Bay Naval Base south of San Diego Harbor where most aircraft were destroyed or captured prior to their landing operation into Tokyo Bay on September 5th 1945 under Operation Murasaki which marked Japan's capitulation following its unsuccessful invasion of Hiroshima earlier that year: USS Enterprise (CV-6), USS Yorktown (CVN-8), USS Lexington (CVAS-5), USS Saratoga (CVBN-3). Upon conclusion of hostilities all military installations closed except for Camp Edwards which continued operations until 1951 when it was decommissioned due to low use: Camp Edwards Race Course Site now housing Visitor Center Open late Mondays thru Thursdays starting at 10am
