The 14th Regiment then became known as the 3rd Battalion of Los Angeles County Militia (LACM) and served from 1865-1870. In 1870, the LACM became known as the 4th Battalion of Los Angeles County Militia (LACM) and continued to serve until 1938 when it was disbanded. After being disbanded, many members of the LACM decided to form their own regiment which would become known as The California National Guard (CNG). On July 15, 1938, CNG was created at Hollywood Barracks with 125 men under arms. Over time, more men were added to CNG including veterans from World War II who had already received their honorable discharge from military service. Today, The California National Guard is one of America's most powerful militaries with over 100,000 active duty members across all 50 states and D.C.. The California National Guard was established on September 12, 1849, in response to the Gold Rush. The first unit was organized in San Francisco and called the Company D of the 1st Battalion of Artillery. The brigade was redesignated as the Brigade of Artillery on November 15, 1850. In 1853, a battalion (1st) of artillery was raised and assigned to duty at Fort Point San Jacinto. In 1861, the brigade became an infantry brigade under command of Major General James Buchanan Polk with headquarters at Benicia. The brigade fought in the Civil War from 1861-1865 and 168th Infantry Regiment lost its life while serving in that battle. The brigade reorganized and redesignated as a separate regiment on December 13, 1865, becoming brigadier general Order No. 5573 entitled " Californian Volunteers ". It served until it disbanded on October 14, 1889 when all volunteer units were consolidated into Regular Army divisions.

The first European to visit Brea was Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 15, 1769 during his historic Mayflower voyage. In 1824, gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill and subsequently became one of the leading forces behind its growth. By 1870, Brea had become an important commercial center for citrus fruits and vegetables due to its location on the main Central Coast road system. After years of development and growth, Brea reached its current form in the early 20th century when it annexed parts of neighboring Ventura County. Today, there are over 200,000 active duty National Guardsmen in all 50 U.S. states as well as Puerto Rico and Guam; 46 commands have guard battalions stationed overseas; 1 armoured brigade provides offensive fire support to units engaged in ground combat anywhere in America; 3 air divisions provide air-combat fire support to ground forces; 2 artillery brigades provide artillery fire support to infantry units engaging targets on land or afloat; 7 ranger regiments are permanently activated at least once a year for counterterrorism operations against terrorist cells or other violent extremist groups operating near U.S soil; 1 special operations battalion provides paramilitary capabilities such as hostage handling, counterintelligence work, sabotage exercises and reconnaissance missions under direct command of U.S Special Operations Command

Brea, California is a town in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 43,611 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of Los Angeles and is bordered by Ventura to the north and west, San Fernando Valley to the east and south, and Hollywood to the northwest. The area now known as Brea was first inhabited by Tongva people who originally lived in central L.A.. They were replaced by Mission Indians around 1800. In 1847 Brea became part of ranchojon Rancho Buena Vista de Anza y Otay; it was later transferred to Mexican land grant Rancho La Hacienda de las Pulgas (later Don José Rey) in 1853. A post office called Brea opened in 1857; it closed in 1916. The name may be derived from "breal" or "borderland". In 1863 an American colonel named George Prentice established a cattle drive through parts of Southern California calledthe Prentice Rancho Santa Ana del Sur near what is now Westwood Village; this drove alluvial gold fields that would become Kern County and parts of today's Orange County. In 1865 he sold his interest in the drive to Wmianson & Sons who named their holdings El Caney after one of their mines there. By 1907, the population had grown to over 10,000 people and the city charter was granted. On Feb. 15, 1915, Brea became an incorporated city with a population of 20,883 people. In 1923 Brea annexed part of Daly City which had a population of 25,000 people at the time.
