The United States Airforce has a rich history in Brentwood, California. The first air force Base in the city was established in 1941 and the USAF Ninth Air Force was activated here in 1948. The USAF Ninth Air Force played an important role during World War II by providing air support for ground forces and conducting strategic bombing raids against German targets. In the postwar period, the USAF Ninth Air Force continued to play a valuable role in America's military strategy by providing airlift and reconnaissance missions. In addition, it also played a major role in training new members of the military and helping equip American fighter pilots with the latest equipment. Today, the USAF Ninth Air Force operates out of three bases located in Brentwood: Edwards AFB (1948), Tinker AFB (1980) and Elmendorf AFB (2006). Today, Brentwood is home to several universities including UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine University as well as many high-end restaurants and clubs including Belvedere Clubhouse and The Beverly Hilton Casino Resort.

In 1915 the town passed through a process known as “ annexation” which added several other small towns to Brentwood. Today the town has a population of over 65,000 people and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in California. The history of Brentwood can be traced back to when it was established as an agricultural community on the edge of what is now Los Angeles County. The name derived from two words: "brent" meaning wooded or hilly and "doodling" which means division or subdivision. In 1868 Edwin H. Brent bought 640 acres near present day West Hollywood for $10 per acre. By 1870 he had built a house on the property and named it Brentwood after himself and his wife Emma (née Hunt). The family lived there until 1908 when they moved to their current home – also called Brentwood – inresponse to growing complaints from other landowners about how much they were paying for land that wasn't really theirs! Brentwood slowly became an important center during the late 19th century due to its location at the edge of new Agricultural Districts developing throughout Southern California . These districts were intended not only as farming areas but also as places where businesses could be formed and investors could put their money into new ventures . As these districts developed, so too did Brentwood's importance within them . In 1899-1900 Alfred Hitchcock filmed A Tree Grows in Larch (later released as Psycho) at nearby Mountlake Terrace , just north of what is now downtown Brentwood . This event helpedestablish Brentwood as a major filming destination for movies throughout Southern California . In 1915-16 annexation took place in order to add additional communities such as West Covina , Monrovia , Gardena , Norwalk , Hawthorne Heights , Canoga Park etc., all located along then newly created 4 Freeway heading eastward from downtown Los Angeles . This addition increased Brentwood's population by around 20%, making it one of the fastest growing communities in Los Angeles County during this time period! Today over 65% of all residents live within walking distanceof downtown with plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining out, golfing and tennis!
