Brentwood is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 66,931 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Brentwood is located on the borders of Antioch and Walnut Creek neighborhoods. The first humans to settle in what would become Brentwood were Native Americans who had been moving through this area for many years before coming to the area that now includes Brentwood in 1847. The first European settler in what would become Brentwood was Captain John Fenton who bought land from Juan Bautista Alvarado. He named his new town after himself, "Fenton's View." In 1852, Captain Fenton's son-in-law, George Beall built a small farm on part of his father's land known as Beall's Valley which he sold to Mr. Wickersham in 1865 for $8 per acre. In 1868 George Beall and his wife Mary purchased additional property east of their original holdings from David Haggerty for $40 per acre including an orchard and garden complex that still stands today under the name of Haggerty Heights Park (now home to Maple Leaf Elementary School). This addition made up much of present day Brentwood Ridge neighborhood which now spans 3 streets long and 1 street wide with a total population size of over 100 homes dating back to 1870! In 1885 James Matson founded Jaxon Manufacturing Company on some property he had acquired near where he lived at 4381 Telegraph Road until it was moved to its current location two miles northeast along Ravenswood Drive within walking distance of all important community amenities such as churches and schools as well as open air movies shown during summer months outdoors under natural sky light! In 1907 Matson donated 5 acres adjacent to his house east side Ravenswood Drive between Lakeshore Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue (now home to Meridian Place) towards what would become Northgate Mall! AfterJames Matson's death in 1928 Northgate Mall became known simply as "Matson" mall with most retailing activities taking place there while Northside Avenue continued designation until becoming University Avenue when it was annexed by neighboring Walnut Creek that same year! Thereafter numerous other name changes including: Great Northern Shopping Center (1962), South Bay Plaza (1974), Crystal City Center (1982), BrentWOOD All-American Mall (1991) before finally becoming simply called "Brentwood" by most residents by 1996 when South Bay Plaza opened its doors following several years closed time inside demolished former Jaxon Manufacturing building originally built by Henry Ford !! !! So typical 20th century management practices !!

Brentwood is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 362,821 at the 2010 census. Brentwood is part of the Westsidecrest and Boyle Heights neighborhoods of Los Angeles. It is bordered by Fairfax to the north, Echo Park to the east, North Hollywood to the south and Carson City to the west. The first Europeans to arrive in Brentwood were Mexican settlers who prospected for gold in what is now Echo Park. The area was named after Captain John Walton of the British East India Trading Company's ship "Walton" during a 1827 land grant from Mexico City. In 1853, Brentwood became an independent municipality when it separated from Echo Park. In 1907, it annexed neighbouring Carson City and formed a combined municipality with its current name. In 1928, Brentwood erected its first public works project--a new schoolhouse on El Camino Real near present-day Devon Avenue and Elysian Avenue. This school was originally called Woodlawn School but was renamed after Senator Arthur Hays Whitney (1863–1949). A second new school—now known as Harding Middle School—was built on nearby acres in 1927–28 following approval from voters in a referendum that year. The southern border of Brentwood has changed several times since it was settled; today it borders North Hollywood on one side and Carson City on the other side just beyond Echo Park Boulevard. At its high point in 1930, there were over 4500 residents living in Brentwood proper and 3000 more scattered throughout its annexed areas: suburbanhello! had been born! In 1951–52 Assemblyman Don Peevey (D-Los Angeles)sponsored legislation creating what are now Valley Village Drive (northwest corner of fairfax Boulevard), Harding Place (southwest corner of Elysian Avenue), Laurel Canyon Boulevard (east end of Laurel Canyon Boulevard),and Beverly Hills Boulevard (west end of Beverly Hillbillies boulevard)—all within boundaries defined by then- northeast San Gabriel Valley Mayor Manuel Gomez Chavez as being within bounded parameters set forth by him as part of his master plan for that portion of Los Angeles County which would become known as South Central LA . Today these areas contain some 25% or moreof all residents living within their respective municipal limits
