National Guard gift history in Buena Park, California began with the organization of the Buena Park National Guard on July 1, 1942. The Buena Park National Guard was organized to serve as a reserve force for the County of Santa Ana and its municipal employees. The first members of theBuena Park National Guard were assigned to Company E, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment. On November 2, 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9420 which called for donations by private citizens to be used for the purchase of military equipment and supplies for use in World War II. On December 8, 1944, Governor James Hahn declared a state of emergency in Santa Ana due to an Increase in requests from municipal governments throughout Southern California for war materials. On January 14, 1945 Lieutenant Colonel Harry Siever became Commander-in-Chief of the Buena Park National Guard District 2 and took over all command and control functions from Headquarters Battery 5th Artillery Regiment (Volunteer). In 1947 Captain Ishmael Jablonski assumed command of Company A1/6th Arty at Fort MacArthur after its commander was killed during World War II. Captain Jablonski led his unit through multiple campaigns including Operation Crossroads which ended with the surrender of Japanese forces at Okinawa on September 91945;Operation Alligator which resulted in Japan's surrender on April 101945;andOperation Mockingbird which successfully destroyed Japanese radio communication networks on August 12 1945. Captain Jablonski is credited with saving many lives during these operations. A number of local businesses donated items such as automobiles, radios, clothing and furniture to help support our troops during their time away from home. In honor of our Guardsmen who have served or are serving there is also a annual parade that takes place down Main Street in front of City Hall every October 4th beginning at 7:00am

Buena Park is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 26,878 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Irvine and is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first people to call Buena Park their home were the Ohlone Native Americans who lived there for many years before European settlers arrived in the early 1800s. In 1876, landowner Elias Howe donated 640 acres (2 km2) of his property to create what would become Buena Park. The city's first Mayor was J. B. Williamson and its first Republican mayor was James Witherspoon. The town was incorporated on July 1, 1907. A post office called Buena Park had been established in 1876 but closed by 1886 due to lack of mail service from Orange County proper. In 1932, an act of the state legislature created Anaheim Hills as a separate city with its own governance and political boundaries within the county limits of Orange County instead of sharing those with Buena Park and Anaheim . Anaheim Hills became an independent city on January 1, 1933 under then-Governor George Norris . Buena Park has experienced significant growth since it incorporation – from 703 people in 1907 to over 26,000 residents by 2010 – making it one of Southern California's fastest-growing communities during that time period
The National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1792. The first National Guard units were raised in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 1815, General George Washington authorized the raising of a regiment of artillerymen from New York City. This was followed by the organization in 1861 of the 1st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which served in the American Civil War as a part of the Union army. In 1917, Congress created the National Guard Bureau to organize and manage all volunteer national guard units within the United States. The National Guard was organized into brigades and regiments on July 15, 1921. On November 8, 1923, an act providing for aoj^ment of aviation troops was passed by Congress and signed by President Calvin Coolidge. This Act designated six divisions (numbered 1-6) of Army Air Forces Reserve forces to be mobilized for service with joint anti-aircraft warfare operations in Europe after World War II began. These divisions became operational on April 20, 1945 under Major General Curtis LeMay Jr., commander of Strategic Air Command (USAF). Inactivated on September 30th 1948 when last combat operations ended in Europe occurred After World War II there were numerous demands for military manpower from various countries around the world including war cries such as "We want jobs not draft cards!" The forced enlistment into armies or navies led to many veterans being discharged without proper discharge papers or receiving very low pay rates for their years spent fighting overseas while some never got paid at all because they enlisted involuntarily due to poverty stricken homes back home
