The California Army National Guard (CA ANG) is one of the state's military forces. The CA ANG was formed on July 1, 1917, from the former independent California Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The unit has served in a variety of roles throughout its history, including World War II service as part of the United States Armed Forces; Korean War service as part of the United Nations Command; and Desert Storm service as part of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Today, the CA ANG provides support to a wide range of missions and activities within California through its three corps: The Divisional Combat Arms Center (DCCA), which is responsible for artillery, armored cavalry and small arms; The Chemical Warfare Service (CWS); and Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), which is responsible for all other combat arms units located in Burbank. Since 1923 when it was first formed, CA ANG Troops have proudly worn blue uniforms with white stars above their left shoulders in commemoration of our nation's commitment to freedom and democracy.
