The Burbank Army and Navy Museum is a museum in Burbank, California that tells the story of the military in and around Burbank. The museum was founded in 1951 as the Military History Branch of the Los Angeles County Historical Society. In 1966, it became an independent organization, and in 1992 it moved to its current location on Ontario Street. The museum has collections about United States Armed Forces history from pre-Columbian times through World War II. It also has displays on Californian military culture during the 1800s and early 1900s, as well as exhibits on modern Burbank military history. The museum also has an army canteen which serves food to visitors inside and outside the building.

Even before Gold Rush times there were settlements around present day Burbank including Carpinteria (now part of Norwalk), Carnelian Heights (now part of Glendale), Lankershim and Van Nuys Streets/Alameda Avenue (now Carson Street) which were all established between 1800-1850 during this time period when agriculture was still kingpin of Southern California economy. This area became known as Old Town because most development took place along arterial streets that ran east-west through rural villages like Carpinteria and Lankershim with only a few blocks developed on hillsides or near water supplies such as Lakeshore Drive where Isabella Stewart Gardner lived until her death at 96 years old in 1925. In 1847 burbling Wells Creek filled with water from nearby Mount Wilson brought new settlers to what would become northwest Burbank just south of Western Avenue; these men founded Pico Union Station which served travelers heading northward on Interstate 5 then west on I-10 until it was closed by state officials due to flooding two years later. Today Pioneer House Museum & Park within walking distance offers insights into early American history while preserving unique examples of Mission Revival architecture dating back to 1847 throughout much older buildings near downtown Burbank including original Pico Union Depot building built for mail service between Myrtlesandro Canyon Mine outposts (later renamed Crescent City) across Channel Vista Boulevard from today’s University Ave., another replica of an 1847 post office built by Captains John Cushing & Samuel Morse on land leased from Rancho La Brea Tariff policeman Juan Bautista Alvarado also called Rancho La Brea; mission style adobe buildings next door; 2100 block El Camino Real also contains ruins believed to be remnants associated with missions Buena Ventura & Santa Catalina de Palos Verdes del Sur; both parts are open daily 9am - 4pm except Monday Closed Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day During World War II many residents volunteered their services food processing plants making munitions like gas masks, boots etc.; 82% male citizens working outside compared to 32% insideCombat production stopped after 1945 but Essen Steel remains one local employer manufacturing products needed by military forces worldwide such as aircraft engines oil filters bearings gaskets tools hydraulic fracturing fluids pipeline fittings equipment essential for energy productionRancho la Brea Playas Beach State Beach
