The Coast Guard has been a part of California's life since its establishment in 1839. The first coast guard station was established at the mouth of the Sacramento River, and by 1865, there were six stations scattered throughout the state. In 1902, the Coast Guard Headquarters was moved from San Francisco to Burlingame and began providing services statewide. In 1954, the Department of Public Works began providing support for the Coast Guard through the purchase of boats and other equipment. The first cutterboat, USCGC "Plymouth" was purchased in 1957 and soon became one of California's most popular coastal patrol vessels. In 1967, PCG "Hercules" was purchased as part of a restoration project that included restoring her original paint job and repainting her hull number 2A. Today, PCG "Hercules" is one of only three remaining historic Coast Guard Cutters in operation across both hemispheres. Throughout its history, the Coast Guard has worn many different uniforms and insignia to represent its many missions including law enforcement; maritime security; emergency relief; disaster relief; public relations; fisheries conservation; environmental protection; water resources management/agriculture/forestry/recreation/sport fishing); homeland security ( encompassing border security with Mexico ); humanitarian aid (including disasters such as earthquakes or floods); and response to natural disasters such as wildfires or hurricanes (such as in Pacific Grove). Today, members of the Coast Guard continue to serve our country through various duties including those associated with Search & Rescue operations along Highway 101 near Watsonville during severe weather events or search-and-rescue missions after devastating storms like Hurricane Katrina or Superstorm Sandy. Additionally, members are also deployed on numerous overseas postings where they provide assistance to our ally countries in their time of need. One important aspect that separates today's Coast Guard from its predecessor is that today's service members are not only trained in maritime safety but also have an understanding of climate change which plays a significant role in coastal patrols around Sonoma County specifically within Mission Bay which can be reached via boat or helicopter depending on conditions ashore when searching for debris or victims following storms like Typhoon Haiyan or SARS [severe acute respiratory syndrome]) earlier this year which claimed more than 400 lives across China .

The California coast guard has a long and rich history in Burlingame. The original Coast Guard Station was built in 1872, and the present-day station is located on High Street just south of themouth of San Francisco Bay. The Coast Guard has been providing law enforcement services along the California coastline since 1879. In 1927, the Coast Guard began providing lifesaving service along the Santa Cruz County coastline. Since then, we’ve worked to keep our communities safe by rescuing people from distress situations, conducting Search and Rescue operations, and providing education about maritime safety.
Burlingame is a city in San Mateo County, California. The population was 78,521 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in San Mateo County and one of its three cities. The other two are Santa Clara and Fremont. The first Europeans to visit what is now Burlingame were the Spanish Missionaries on October 17, 1777. They named it San Francisco de los Padres thenMission Santa Clara de Asís after Saint Francis Xavier who had been Friar Padre (Father) of the Mission in 1809-1810. In 1851, United States general Manuel Nieto decided to build a military post near what is now Menlo Park so that American soldiers could be stationed on Donner Pass for winter purposes. He also selected Burlingame as the site for his new post because it was closer to Palo Alto than any other town in California at that time and there were no mountains between Menlo Park and Burlingam

The Coast Guard’s mission includes protecting our coasts and seas, maintaining public safety, conducting Search and Rescue operations, enforcing laws relating to maritime commerce, and support for coastal communities. In 1965, when the Coast Guard merged with U.S Maritime Administration it became NOAA which continued to give smaller gifts until 1986 when they started giving large quantities of medals and ribbons specific to coast guard functions like water search and rescue (WSR), oceanography (Oriental) patrol missions (EPM), Search & Rescue (SAR) squadrons etc..
