Burlingame is a city in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 29,561 at the 2010 census. It lies on the San Francisco Peninsula and is located adjacent to Silicon Valley. The Burlingame area has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 40 years. In 1866, Capt. John Brougham of the Ulysses S. Grant Expedition named the area after General George Burlingame who had served as Commander-in-Chief of the Department of California during that time. The first European to visit what is now Burlingame was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1602 CE when he explored and charted the straits between Monterey and San Francisco Bay. In 1868, ownership of land around present day Burlingame changed hands three times due to conflicts over water rights with other ranching communities on both sides of San Francisco Bay. On July 12, 1868, an act was passed by Congress giving ownership of land east of San Bruno Creek to Mission Santa Clara de Asís under the supervision of Governor Manuel Micheltorena On November 2, 1868 a second act provided for Rancho Rincon de la Cana (Rancho Rincon) which extended from present day northward along Point Reyes National Seashore past Half Moon Bay then down into Jenner Creek valley southwesterly to its confluence with Marin Creek near Islip Lagoon. This parcel included much later part of modern Hayward and East Palo Alto neighborhoods as well as many homes built on Coyote Hills today’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory campus across Coyote Hills Road from Presidio Hill park where Buena Vista Gardens now stands A third act granted Rancho Rincon de la Cana (Rancho Rincon) extending from Point Reyes National Seashore eastward along Point Reyes Boulevard past Admiralty Islands until it reached Sausalito before turning southeast toward Big Sur . This parcel includes much later parts of current Daly City and South San Francisco neighborhoods as well as many homes built on Coyote Hills today’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory campus across Coyote Hills Road from Presidio Hill park where Buena Vista Gardens now stands . Finally in 1870 Santiago Carrillo received title to about 60 acres southwest corner missions Concepcion del Valle and Nuestra Senora del Carmen del Mar in what are now downtown Los Gatos and Marina Districts . From this new acquisition came what would become known as “the Carrillo Acreage” which included most or all present day Burlingame including portions of Shoreline Park lying east sideof Sausalito harbor up through Point Lobos Harbor Today part of Golden Gate Park also falls within this boundaries . Today there are still people living in some areas off shoreline west shore near Laguna Beach
Burlingame is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 33,817 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Alameda County and the largest city within Oakland County. The first permanent settler in Burlingame was George Kapp of Hayward in 1868. The town site was surveyed by Captain John J. Griggs on February 2, 1869, and filed with the Mexican Land Office on October 20 that year. On November 15 of that year, Burlingame citizens voted to incorporate as a town under the name "Mountain View". In 1875–76, Samuel Inslee leased land east of San Francisco Bay for $1 per acre to start what would become Oakland Park. In 1880, burleyamese citizens sold some of their land near Point Reyes Station to Edward James Olmsted Sr., founder of Yosemite National Park and first superintendent of parklands there. This purchase formed part of what is now called Olmsted Meadows (the original name). In 1906 Burlingame voters passed an ordinance forbidding discrimination against Armenians living within its boundaries because they were considered 'undesirable aliens'. Armenian Americans had come to Burlingame during World War I as soldiers or workers in various industries including shipyards and chemical plants; many were drafted into World War I but did not serve due to anti-war sentiment among many American Jews at that time. After the war many returned home and founded businesses such as Yiannis Mougas grocery store (now closed) which became one of the most successful small businesses in California until it went out of business around 1980s when consolidation took place in California's food industry . In 1951 Mayor John Wahlquist recommended creating a new City Hall complex on West Nevada Street adjacent to then existing Municipal Building before he stepped down from office after being elected Governor four years later; this proposal failed because although burleyamese men could vote they still had no say over municipal decisions without confirmation from City Council members who resided elsewhere inside Oakland County limits
