Custer during the Indian Wars (1865-1867). In 1868, General Mariano Vallejo established Campo de las Palmas on land donated by Don Carlos Antonio Valencia y Mendoza at what is now Eastshore Boulevard in Burlingame. The camp was used to supply soldiers and supplies for the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). It was also used as a landing ground for American troops during the Gold Rush period in California (1849- 1850). In 1892, Campo de las Palmas was renamed Camp San Francisco and it continued to be used as an American military base until it closed in 1898. The first civilian school in Burlingame opened its doors in 1865 when Mrs. Anna Maria Hickey started up Los Angeles County’s first schools with $1 per pupil donated by her husband, Augustus Hickey Sr.. Mrs. Hickey served as interim superintendent from 1865 to 1870 before she replaced Drinnon Head beginning on July 1st, 1870.. Mrs Head taught religious instruction until 1871 when she became headmistress of Ladies’ High School which opened on May 14th following five years construction commenced on what would become North Avenue School Building located at present day 15th Street & Chavez Avenue.. On December 3rd 1860 father Washington Park set out baskets filled with flowers from his orchard at his farmstead called “Mountain View” near Redwood City northeast of today’s downtown Burlingame.. His daughter Julia Ann married Drayson Woodbury who farmed there from about 1840 until his death about 1880 .. After Drayson Woodbury’s death Julia Ann sold her farm to Wm Bigham who lived there until he sold it to Capt Wm Gage about 1900 .. Wm Bigham then sold it to Capt Jno Ayer who operated it for many years .. After Capt Jno Ayer sold it to Capt Leland Beall about 1922 he leased it out to various people including Rinaldo De Los Reyes who operated it from 1926 thru 1941 .. From 1942 thru 1945 Calvert Street ran through Morningside Heights cutting off access eastbound while westbound access went via El Camino Real . From 1946 thru 1951 Westinghouse Avenue cut off eastbound access while westbound access went via North Avenue .. Finally Alameda Boulevard took over eastbound access from 1951 thru 1959 providing an uninterrupted connection between downtown Burlingame and across University Drive into Hayward After World War II ended hostilities ceased within Japan but without any official agreement between Japan and United States resulting in weapons shipments continuing unabated Japanese forces invaded Manchuria starting on September 25th 1931 pursuant to order No.(15)741 issued by Prime Minister Shigenobu Fukuda This invasion led Tojo Yoshihide against all expectations becoming leader of Imperial Japanese Army seeking revenge against America which had supported him throughout World War I along with Russia While American forces were positionedattenching relationships w/ China maintaining economic links arms shipments continued unabated resultinjg In 1945 Emperor Hirohito abdicated effective February 24th 1945 due largely(although not exclusively)to pressure brought forth by UAW president Joe McCarthy resultantinjj MacArthur assumed control over Japan uncontested thereby fulfilling Emperor Hirohito's desire for restoration nominally leading us into world war II

Burlingame is a town in San Mateo County, California. It has a population of 397 as of the 2010 census. The original post office was established in 1879 by James Irvine. The name "Burlingame" was chosen because of its resemblance to the English word " Briarbgate." The first permanent settler in Burlingame was John Sutter, who arrived on horseback in 1847. He named his new land Rancho Santa Cruz del Cielo, after the Santa Cruz Mountains near his home in Northern California. A year later, Sutter and his family moved to what is now downtown Burlingame and founded the first store there. The first school opened in 1851 with six students. In 1865, burleyamese Henry Blakeslee built a sawmill at the junction of Hwy 101 and Hwy 26 (now part of US 101). By 1870, Burlingame had a Methodist church and two stores. The iron industry began to grow rapidly through 1862 when local farmers bought into an experimental iron mine operated by William Dutton & Sons Ltd.. This led to Burlingame becoming one of the most important iron towns in California during this time period. In 1916, major World War I caused such an economic boom that many people decided to move away from farming or ranching for work opportunities; however, many veterans stayed behind and started businesses like meatpacking plants and hotels/motels throughout central California during this time period. It wasn't until 1957 that BURLINGAME received city status; it had been part of San Francisco since 1955 despite having no vote or official representation from that city until then!
