The United States Navy deployed gifts to Burlingame, California in the mid 1800s. The first gift was a ship from Portsmouth, England in 1853. It was brought to the city by Captain John Latham and his wife, Eliza Bulkley. After the gift arrived, Latham placed it on display at the local wharf for residents and visitors to enjoy. In 1865, Commodore George Dewey donated a USS Constitution gunboat to the city. The gift was accepted with thanks by Mayor Samuel Morse and other officials. In 1868, Commodore David Dixon donated two USS Constitution torpedoboats to Burlingame. They were displayed at Mission Bay before being taken down in order to be rebuilt in 1889. In 1898, Rear Admiral Harry Swayne gifted a USS Maine coastal patrol vessel to Burlingame. This gift was accepted with gratitude by Mayor Samuel Morse and other officials. After World War II ended in 1945, many of the United States Navy's ships were decommissioned or sold off due to lack of use or mothballing backlogs. However, one navy destroyer that remain active is USS San Francisco (DDG-8) dating back to World War I. The destroyer served as an addition of marines during Operation Neptune's Spear which liberated Holland from Nazi occupation in 1944-1945 and participated in numerous patrols off California shores during that time period including providing gunfire support for Marines assaulting Surigao Strait on 4 September 1944 while under Japanese fire from ashore

The USS Constitution (1775-1850) was the first U.S. warship to serve in the Mexican War of 1846-1848. The ship was commanded by Commodore John H. Sloat and served as flagship of the Pacific Squadron under Admiral David D. Porter during that conflict. She later served in the war with distinction, taking part in engagements at San Diego, La Jolla, and Yuma before being decommissioned on March 12, 1850. Burlingame is a city located in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward Combined Statistical Area. The first people to live in Burlingame were Native Americans who hunted and collected plants near the mouth of the Santa Clara River. They built wigwams on the banks of that river from about 1650 to 1700. In 1868, Captain John A. Sloat built Fort Point on mudflats at what is now Golden Gate Park after he won a land giveaway from Mexico City following his victory in the American War of Independence. Commodore John D. Stockton and his forces landed at Alcatraz Island on November 2, 1868 and took possession of the fortification on January 15, 1869 under an agreement with Mexico City Mayor José Joaquin Pezuela y de la Vega. The fort served as a prison until 1906 when it was replaced by Fort Point Naval Shipyard which operated until 1978 when it was decommissioned and sold for scrap to Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Company Limited (MHI). During World War II Japanese troops burned down much of downtown Burlingame during an amphibious landing operation known as Operation Downfall in late December 1944; most damage was done to two hotels which were used by UJA/ Jewish Defense League commandos as headquarters before they surrendered to General MacArthur's Forces upon their withdrawal from mainland Japan early January 1945 In 1951–1952 NFL players Allie Long and Sonny Liston fought a battle over control of a football game between Donnybrook High School (Los Angeles) and Northridge High School (San Marino) near where Interstate Highway 8 meets Interstate Highway 580; later that year Northridge won but Long died from injuries received during the fight while liston escaped uninvited

When ashore, sailors would put their hand through the loops for support while walking or running. This system became very popular among American sailors after World War I because it allowed them to stay ashore longer and allow for easier passage through port cities on their way home from war theaters. Another example of a naval deployed gift is the USS Enterprise's catapult launcher. This device allowed American warships to launch missiles without having to go outside the ship and ontoshore support planes. The launcher also became very useful during Operation Desert Storm when Saudi Arabia used anti-aircraft artillery against American aircraft carriers off Saudi Arabia's coast.
