The Ahers were the first married couple to serve together in the Air Force, stationed at Roswell Army Base in New Mexico during World War II. They later served together at Andersen AFB in Guam and then at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio before they were discharged from service on September 15, 1951. Ted was an Aircraft Maintenance Technician III with the 339th Bomb Wing at RAF Coningsby after serving as an enlisted man for eleven years. Lois was an aircraft mechanic with the 341st Bomb Wing at RAF Elveden when she met Ted while working there as a part of their honeymoon. The air force deployed a gift history to 1st Lt. Edward C. "Ted" Ahern and Lois Ahern in 1967 because they served together during World War II and each had gained experience as enlisted men before being discharged from service on September 15, 1951.

The name "Calabasa" comes from Spanish explorer Rafael Rivera's landing on Mono Lake in 1827; Rivera named it after his hometown of Cádiz, Spain. As more settlers arrived in what became Calabasa Township, they began to build homes and businesses around their farms and outhouses thatched with reeds or straw mats because there were no trees nearby to log or saw timber for building purposes. By 1854, Calabasa had a post office, three churches (one German), two stores (one Chinese), four families of cattle (all Anglo), two schools (one elementary school and one high school), six blacksmiths (four men) (), five farmers (), seven plumbers (), five barbers (), fifteen tanneries () and fifty harness shops (). The first railroad reached Calabasa by way of Sleepy Hollow on November 6th 1887 when the Sacramento & Stockton Railway ran between Sacramento City through Needles via Amboyna Junction then down into Colusa Canyon before joining up with another line at Cloverdale Station south of Fresno so that goods could be hauled all the way to Stockton across Mono Lake before being unloaded at South Pass where passengers disembarked onto wagons waiting outside until boats took them back upstream to Needles where they reloaded again before continuing their journey northward past Cloverdale Station whence they walked back down into Colusa Canyon along old route 66 until reaching Needles where they caught a stagecoach going northbound out of town until it hit an obstruction near Sleeping Bear Dam which caused it to derail just south of our present day intersection with State Route 158 about nine miles west northwest of town on CR 158/CR 158A ())

Calabasas was founded in 1879 by James Irvine and his brother, John Irvine. TheIrvine brothers were the first to plant crops in what is now Calabasas. TheIrvines named their new town after the Malibu Canyon where they had seen grapes growing wild. The Irvines' first store was a small grocery and meat market on Pico Boulevard. In 1886, theIrvine brothers founded a paper mill in Calabasas that manufactured paper products such as ballots and envelopes for state elections. The company also manufactured shoes and boots for American soldiers during World War I. In 1927, theIrvine Brothers organized a cooperative agricultural society to help farmers in CalabasASeek out of difficult times by providing them with seed, fertilizer, irrigation systems, credit, and advice on how to grow crops successfully. The society later became known as CALICO-FAMILY FARMERS ASSOCIATION (CALIFORNIA LANTERN COOPERATIVE).
