This location served as Headquarters for U.S Forces Far East until its closure in 1945. In 1944, Japanese forces invaded Southern California and bombed Los Angeles County with incendiary bombs creating one of the largest firestorms in U.S history; this attack also destroyed many homes and killed over 100 people. The following year saw another large firestorm when Allied bombers attacked Tokyo with incendiary raids resulting in extensive damage to buildings throughout Japan including Hiroshima City Hall which still stands today as a memorial to those who perished there during World War II

Calabasas, California is a small city located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, northwest of downtown LA. With a population of just over 100,000, Calabasas is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after Carson City. It lies on the border of Kern and Orange counties to the east and west. The city was founded by Mexican immigrants in 1853 as Rancho Cucamonga. The first settlers were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). They named their settlement for Saint Catherine of Siena (1552-1624), who had given religious services at an agricultural mission near modern day Simi Valley, California. When new Mormon missionaries arrived in 1854, they chose to call their new community "Calais", based on a description from French missionary Alexis de Tocqueville (1798-1862) about a Spanish town he had visited near Bakersfield several years earlier. In 1863, Calabasas became part of what was then known as Southern California when it was added to Los Angeles County. During World War II, Calabasas served as one of four military airfields used by the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force during World War II; others were Buena Park Naval Air Station (now Long Beach Airport) and Lancaster Field in northern Pasadena County. After the war ended, many residents moved away or left for other cities due to economic opportunities available in post-war America. However, many others decided to stay because they found comfort and opportunity within Calabasi's close-knit community atmosphere and its easy access to transportation including freeways and buses that took them throughout Los Angeles County and into downtown LA. Calabasas, California (formerly known as Van Nuys) is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 107,551 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles–Long Beach metropolitan area and has a population of 553,405 as of 2015. Calabasas was founded on November 15, 1879 by John Sutter and his brother-in-law George Surveyor. The first post office in Calabasas was established in 1884. The original name for the community was Van Nuys but it soon became popular to call it "Calabasia." In honor of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who fought during Californio's Mexican War and later served as Governor of Alta California under United States President James K Polk, Calabasio had its first public school built in 1885. In 1903, when Congress passed the Tilden Act which created local governments all over the country, Calabasis became one of them through an act called "An Act to Establish certain Districts within Los Angeles County". The City Council adopted a new charter on January 1st 1907 with 1/2 member from each ward and 4 council members elected at large from the city's wards plus 2 members appointed by Mayor Whitehead from among the councilmembers who were not re-elected to serve another term). On July 12th 1907Calabanasio hosted its first ever parade down Highland Avenue after being named one of two cities chosen for this event by then county supervisor Humes and Supervisor Wickersham both from Van Nuys After World War I ended with America entering into World War II on December 7th 1941 thanks to president Franklin D. Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066 which mandated that all Japanese Americans living in Southern California be deported without warning or opportunity for consultation or compensation they organized themselves into what came to be known as "the Japanese American Citizens League" which opposed any form of government action against their citizens regardless of military necessity or political leanings however despite general opposition throughout most of 1942 many people chose not to flee CALABASAS but rather remain inside their homes until orders arrived otherwise most people managed somehow to get out during either night raids or adrift vessels while others took more difficult routes like swimming across bodies of water onto other islands off southern coast

The area that is now Calabasas was explored by Junipero Serra in 1769 and by Antonio Jose de Alarcón y Espinosa in 1821. In 1853, when California became a U.S. state, Calabasas County was established from portions of Los Angeles County.
