In 1985, the U.S. Navy deployed a seaplane to Calabasas, California in order to provide landing and takeoff services for Naval Air Station Point Mugu. The mission of NAS Point Mugu was to provide aerial refueling and cover for Operation Northwoods, a plan by then-President George H.W. Bush to use terror threats against the Soviet Union as a pretext for war. The deployment was part of the "Operation Neptune's Spear" strategy initiative, which also included deployments of submarines and bombers along with air attacks on targets in Afghanistan and Yugoslavia. In 2013, NAS Point Mugu celebrated its 50th anniversary by hosting an event called "50 Years of Aviation at NAS Point Mugu."
Calabasas, California is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 14,883 at the 2010 census. Calabasas is located on the Santa Clarita River and has an elevation of 639 feet (200 m). It lies adjacent to the towns of Simi Valley and Carpinteria. The name "Calabasa" means "calamity." Calabasa was first settled by Native Americans in 1769. In 1824, Spanish soldiers captured part of Rancho Cucamonga from Mexican landowners during the War for Independence. José Maria Garza donated about 4,000 acres (1 km²) of present-day Carpinteria and Simi Valley to the US in 1851 as a gift to America. The town began growth with settlers arriving from eastern United States during the gold rush of 1849–1852. By 1870, Calabasas had a population of 2,500 people and it became an incorporated town in 1872. On July 24th 1870, both Simi Valley and Carpinteria were incorporated into new cities – Simi Valley because it was near Los Angeles while Carpinteria because it prohibited its owners from annexing their adjoining rural land without consent from the other two cities. During World War II over 1 million barrels (4500 m3) of oil were produced at various sites throughout Southern California by American Petroleum Company (API). Many residents worked at these sites or took classes to learn about production methods as they unfolded during wartime; however few knew that many miles away their homes were targets for bombing raids by Japanese forces which devastated much of Southern California between 1941-1945 including much of Calabasa City limits! In 1951 when new boundaries were drawn for Ventura County following passage of Proposition 16 – which split Ventura County along racial lines – Calabasa became one half mile north east corner lot within newly createdSimi Valley Community Services District No 3 immediately south side property line Orchard Road between Imperial Highway & Placentia Lane owned by Mrs Lillian Bendixen current owner since 1957 also known as Lillian Biggins mentioned earlier on this website

In 1999, during Operation Neptune Spear, USS Enterprise (CVN 71) carried out an operation that killed 20 Somali pirates off the coast of Somalia. This was one of only two US warships ever to carrier land ordnance on shore in order to disable their ships before they could bomb or pirate targets ashore (the other being USS Theodore Roosevelt). In 2007, CVN 78 made a similar mission when it successfully stopped 10 pirates off the coast of Somalia using gunfire and boarding parties instead of shipboard weapons. The navy also helps support local communities through its deployment programs around the world. For example,Operation Mending Fences provides humanitarian assistance to refugees who are displaced by violence or persecution; Operation Genesis gives villagers access to clean water; and Operation Blessing provide resources like foodstuffs and medical equipment to poor people in West Africa.]]>

Calabasas, California was first settled in 1776. The area now known as Calabasas was part of Rancho San Pedro de Atascosa, which belonged to the Mission Santa Anita. In 1821, the property became part of the Mexican state of Alta California. The United States acquired it from Mexico in 1848 and renamed it after General Hamilton C. Polk, who served as President of the United States from March 4, 1850-March 3, 1853. On October 14th, 1876, Calabasas became a city with a population of over 100 people. The town was founded on land that had been donated by Don José real estate developer James M. Daly and his wife Maria Teresa Parra Daly.
Calabasas was founded in 1887 by John Sutter, who named it for the cape of Caledony on which he and his brother, George, had landed upon their return from a journey to the Gold Rush. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major highways, Interstate 10 and State Route 86. In 1924, Calabasas became an incorporated city. In 1951, it merged with nearby North Hollywood to form a single city with a population of over 150,000.
