The U.S. Army has been Gifts to the People of Calexico, California for over 80 years! Our history began back in 1881 when Captain James Fenton donated his horse and buggy to the local military post on the outskirts of town. The first unit to come to Calexico was the 3rd Infantry Regiment which arrived on December 12th, 1881. From there we grew and changed with our soldiers! In 1922, we became 2nd Infantry Division and in 1969, 1st Infantry Division! In 2003, we were renamed as 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (4-IBBCT)! From rifles and shotguns to medical supplies and more, our army gift history is vast and varied! Here are just a few examples: In 1924, General George Smedley donated a machine gun to the local military post. This was followed by other donations throughout the next several years such as LMGs (1928), mortars (1929), tanks (1939), artillery pieces (1945) and even a helicopter pads in 1962! Today, our active duty military members can choose from an extensive inventory of gifts that encompass everything from vehicles to home goods! The U.S. Army Garrison Calexico, California was established in 1881 as the 1st Infantry Regiment of the California Volunteers and became part of the Regular Army in 1865. The regiment re-emerged as a troop detachment assigned to Camp Donner in 1907 and then garrisoned at Fort Sill from 1915 until it was disbanded in 1927. In 1951, it reactivated at Camp Pendleton under command of Headquarters & General Staff Corps brigade before being stationed at Marine Barracks Quantico from 1957 until its disbandment in 1969. It then re-activated at Fort Irwin, CA before being stationed at Naval Station Alameda from 1973 until its closure in 1990.

The area that now makes up Calexico was originally inhabited by the Mono people. In 1848, the United States acquired land in what is now southern California from Mexico and named it after Major General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Mexican officials claimed that the name should be Acoma because of their exclusive access to that mountain range. However, a local resident suggested that since there was no town called Acoma in New Mexico, American officials might as well name the new territory after General Lopez de Santa Anna's hometown in central Mexico City. Calexico became an agricultural center during the late 1800s when thousands of acres were bought and developed as citrus orchards. The citadel-like buildings on Point Conception Boulevard are reminders of this period of growth. Today, Calexico features a vibrant nightlife scene with plenty of cultural events and music festivals throughout the year. While some aspects have changed over time - such as increased traffic - most aspects remain consistent with its dusty old mining days past.

Calexico is a small town in California, United States. The population was 8,752 at the 2010 census. It is located about 25 miles (40 km) north of San Diego and 40 miles (60 km) south of Los Angeles. The town was founded in 1887 by Mexican Americans who had arrived during the Gold Rush. The first post office in Calexico was established on October 15, 1888. The name "Calexico" originated from the Spanish word "calqüe" meaning "humble." In 1897, two brothers named Pemberton started an ice cream business in the town. They renamed their company Calexico Creamery & Dairy Company. In 1940, when World War II began, many Mexicans moved to Southern California to work in munitions plants and other production activities for the war effort. Many of these migrants were forced to leave their homes and towns behind; some found new homes within minutes of arriving in Calexico. After the war ended, many more Mexicans returned to Calexico but they continued to use the original name for their businesses until 1948 when they changed it back to its original spelling - Calexico Incorporated
