Calexico is a city in southern California, located on the border of Imperial and Alameda Counties. The population was 39,811 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Imperial County. The first humans to arrive in what is now Calexico were Paiute Indians who lived near present-day Nacoochee Creek and hunted game in the area for centuries. In 1847, Mexican nationals working for General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna explored and claimed Rancho San Diego de Atascosa as part of Mexico'sclaimed land west of Bakersfield. In 1848, when Californians moved into the area around Nacoochee Creek they named it "Caliaxico" after General José Cándido Peralta's victory at Palo Alto against Mexican forces on 11 February 1847. In 1853, John Sutter founded his own gold mining company at Sutterville which became one of California's leading mining communities. After years of hard work and few available water supplies, Sutterville ran out of gold and abandoned its operations in the mid-19th century. However, other miners continued to search for new veins until placer Mining began to be developed along streams beds just north and east of town beginning in 1865 by Alvord Payne Company founder Alfred O'Connell who found deposits totaling over 20 million ounces (540 metric tons) when prospecting beyond 3 miles (5 kilometers) from town center using underground galleries that extended 350 feet (100 meters) below ground). By 1870 there were over 100 claims including Payne's old claim with its rich GOLD deposit that yielded an estimated 1 tonne (28 kg) per day! After world war II many people returned to live in Calexico but most residents left during the economic recession caused by importation tariffs placed on American products imported into Mexico following World War II. A group led by Mayor Hernán Moreno formed a civic organization called "Pueblo en Común" () to revive local businesses which had been shuttered during prohibition era; this effort eventually led to reopening several small businesses throughout the 1990s that continue today as such organizations exist today: Mexicali Brewery & Grill; Save Our Schools; El Patio Latino restaurant & bar; Cafe De Oro coffee shop/café adjacent to City Hall Annex building; Mamacita Bakery adjacent to City Hall Annex building; The Waterfront Café inside City Hall Annex building; The Pantry store next door to Mexicali Brewery & Grill); Artisan Pizza inside Mexicali Brewery & Grill). This revived spirit helped lead Calexico back onto solid footing during difficult times starting with NAFTA renegotiations which hit both Mexico and U.S.-Mexico relations particularly hard due to retaliatory tariffs levied against U.S made goods exported into Mexico without proper government permits or inspections resulting in job losses across various sectors within both countries prior to NAFTA being ratified effective 01 December 1994 As a result% Of annexed lands lost their adjoinable water supply Blamed on diverted rivers cited as Root cause For National Water Crisis ). The late 19th century saw numerous schools built here including one completed in 1896 serving grades PK-12 known as “Alta” School District #1 then known simply as “Alta” throughout most of school district history until 2002 when district changed name because it conflicted with nearby Vista Linda Charter School District

Calexico, California is an unincorporated community located in Orange County, California. It lies on the southern edge of the Mojave Desert, about 30 miles (48 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. The population was 11,529 at the 2010 census. The area now called Calexico was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. In 1851, it became part of Mexico City and then during the Mexican-American War, it served as a military base for American forces. After Mexican independence was granted in 1912, many American settlers moved into what is now Calexico and other parts of southeastern Orange County. In 1915, President Woodrow Wilson visited Calexico and pronounced it "one of our most enterprising communities". The town's nickname came from its location at the junction of two wagon routes used by travelers heading south to Santa Ana and north to Imperial Valley; hence "Cali" means south and "xico" means wagon route. The post office at Calexico opened on July 15, 1916; it continued operation until 1959. The name comes from Spanish calle or street name meaning '(the) road to Sutter'. The original town meeting took place on September 10 that year to select a new slogan for their local paper which read "Sails Afloat On A Golden Sea Of Slavery!". This idea was not picked up but later replaced with another slogan coined by editor Leland Stanford: "Baja California On A White Glittering World Ocean!" When California became an United States state in 1850s all white people were given land grants near Los Angeles so they could build homes without having to share with Indians who had lived there since before missions were built here in 1769-1770! These grants allowed many rich Anglo men who bought these lands also got Indian wives because they could marry anyone within their social class regardless of race or tribe! So when Californios had their own version of democracy after Mexico won its independence they thought this would make life easier for them knowing that they owned all this land even though they didn't live on it anymore! When Mexicans started moving into these areas large numbers Anglo men followed so soon there were no more Indian women left to get married off so these men decided instead just to stay away from poor Mexican women who were easy pickings for any man with enough money!
Calexico is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 14,811 at the 2010 census. Calexico is bordered to the south by Yuma and to the east by Ontario County. The first post office in Calexico was established on April 12, 1876. The name "Calexico" was given by Captain George H. Calkins of the US Navy who discovered what he thought were islands in the river when exploring it for irrigation purposes during his 1907 campaign against Mono Lake. In 1907, a town site that included what is now downtown Calexico was surveyed and approved by county commissioners under consideration of a plat submitted by local entrepreneur Wm. Halsey Gaulton Jr., son of William Halsey Gaulton Sr., founder of Gaulton & Son lumberyards in Chino Valley. On November 16, 1910, Gaulton's plat became official with the issuance of a deed from Juanita Dell'Ospedalongo and her husband Manuel Dell'Ospedalongo (both natives of Mexico) for an area including present-day downtown Calexico and all or part of both Sahuaro Creek (now known as Black Canyon Creek) north thereof and eastwardly thereof to John Josten Riggs; also land lying between said creek banks within limits set out therein; bounded southeast on said creek bank aforesaid to where Main Street crosses said creek near its confluence with White River they give water access to said creek only at low water levels; northwest on Main Street thence northerly until intersecting Sahuaro Creek just beyond its junction with Main Street then easterly until reaches their original extent which lay about due west from where Isthmus Boulevard crosses Black Canyon Creek before joining said creek thereabouts." This plat became law on November 16th 1910 when Captains George Haltom(left)and John Josten Riggs(right) – both naval officers – sold their share in it to Wm.HalseyGaultonJr.(Wm HWGJVR). In 1912-1913 Captain Harry Aiken commanded USS "Palladin" while stationed at Long Beach Naval Shipyard during World War I which led him nickname "Mr. Navy". He donated land adjacent to what is now Uptown Calexico for a new city park named after him called Harry Aiken Park after himself - another namesake for this location! In 1925 Alice Bancroft started manufacturing furnishings under her company name 'Bancroft & Company'. She opened her mill on May 25th 1925 located across from City Hall across from Fountain Square! It continued production until 1992! In 1929 Alice Bancroft's daughter Rena married Alfred Swartzwelder who ran his father's business side-by-side until 1988 when Alfred passed away suddenly leaving Rena behind running everything including moving expenses etc.- she continued running Bancroft & Company operations until 2000!! By 1930 there were over 100 businesses operating in Downtown Santa Ana alone!!! Today there are only 8 businesses still functioning in Downtown Santa Ana!!!
