Calexico is a city in Mono County, California, United States. The population was 35,564 at the 2010 census. Calexico was founded by the father of modern wine making and winemaking in Northern California, Julius Caesar Riesling. It became a seaport on the Baja Peninsula in 1821 when Commodore John D. Stockton arrived there with his fleet of ships to explore what lay beyond Mexico City. In 1827, Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna discovered gold in what is now Calexico and named it after himself - La Paz del Guale (The Guale Valley). In 1853, the town was incorporated as part of an effort to keep growing around the newly discovered gold fields west of Interstate 5 near Mt. Whitney National Park; this area later became known as wine country because of its high concentration of grapevines. In 1896, Prohibition began in America and soon afterwards breweries opened up all over California; one such brewery was Calexico Brewing Company which started production on October 15th 1897 using water from Springerville Creek west of present-day Calexico. The company produced light beers and matured their own wines until it went out of business in the early 2000s despite being one of the most popular small brewers throughout Northwest U.S.. With that said, some remnants from this company still operate today under different names including: Kona Brewery (Hawaii), Copper King Brewery (Colorado Springs), Oktoberfest Brewery (Munich), etc.. Calexico got its start as a port on Baja Peninsula due to Commodore John D. Stockton's exploration efforts during Mexican Independence War era who landed at San Diego Bay on July 29th 1850 searching for new land to build missions upon while also exploring what lay beyond Mexico City - he found payable quantities or coal but no gold so he sailed back home effective August 7th 1850 having made discoveries adjacent to present day Mexicali Coastline! Today much infrastructure has been built along Baja Peninsula border resulting in increased tourism income for both locals and visitors alike making it easier than ever before for small businesses like ours to thrive amidst large metropolitan areas across America...

The town was founded in 1869 by José Cárdenas and his brother Vicente Cárdenas, who were part of the Mexican Expedition that explored Baja California. They named their new settlement after General Antonio López de Santa Anna's column that had passed through their territory on its way from Chihuahua to Guerrero. The town became an important commercial center during the 19th century due to its location at the mouth of the San Pedro River and its access to shipping channels. It also became a popular destination for Mexicans seeking adventure and tourism beginning in the 1920s. During World War II, many American soldiers served in Baja California and Calexico; some remain buried there today. One such soldier is Sergeant First Class Wiley Branch, who died while serving with Company G, 5th Marines Regiment (less 2nd Battalion), 4th Marine Division in December 1944 during Operation Neptune's Spear, one of several campaigns fought by U.S Forces during World War II off-the-books offshore

Calexico is a city in Baja California, Mexico. It is located on the U.S.-Mexico border and has been since 1849 a location for Mexican-American immigration. The name "Calexico" comes from the Nahuatl "kalēxīco" meaning 'place where there are olives'. The town developed around an olive orchards that were long a part of the Agricultural District of Mexicali City. In 1849, the United States acquired Rancho Calexico from Mexico for $5,000. In 1863, Congress passed the Act to Establish National Roads and Trails, which created roads in present-day Baja California. The following year, President Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order No. 8802 giving Mexicans residing within Mexican territory until March 4th, 1865 to leave for their own protection if they did not possess US citizenship or were not under sentence of death or deportation by order of the Mexican government. As a result of this order (and others like it), many people left Calexico for San Diego County before 1860 when all land north of Interstate 5 was opened up to ranching and settlement by Americans. In 1916 Calexico became one of thirty townships in Baja California that were organized as part of Proposition 65 as part of efforts to reduce tobacco use in local communities across America. The township was dissolved in 1984 but its land remains undisturbed and available for development purposes today
