Policemen have been present in the Calexico area for many years. The first policeman to arrive was William Fenton in 1847. He was a member of the Mounties in Canada and arrived in California to take over policing from General Kearney. In 1849, Captain James Waddell arrived with the 1st Cavalry Regiment and served as police officer until his death in 1861. From 1861-1867, Captains George Armstrong and John Broughton led the force. In 1875, Sgt. Nicholas Akins became the first black police officer in Calexico when he joined the force. He stayed with the department until his retirement in 1916. In 1924, Lt. Harry Godfrey became the first white policeman to work permanently at Calexico when he moved from San Diego.. From 1925-1936, Sgt. Reginald Latham served as police chief of Calexico while concurrently serving as Chief of Police for San Bernardino County.. After Latham’s retirement, Chief David Ritchie took over as interim chief from 1936-1939 before becoming permanent boss on April 1st 1939 after Ritchie’s election as mayor of Calexico by popular vote.. On December 6th 1948, Mayor Ritchie named Sergeant Robert Browning City Marshal effective January 1st 1949; Browning would serve until his retirement on July 4th 1959 when he was succeeded by Deputy City Marshal Don Kappler.. Calexico is a town in Baja California, Mexico. The population was 12,711 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Mexican word "calamares" meaning "little mountains". The first time Europeans saw this area it was part of the Tenochtitlan Empire and they called it San Miguel de Alvarado because of its high mountain peaks. In 1821, wagon train Traveler's Rest passed through this area and named it after General José Joaquín Cámpora y Meneses because their goods had brought civilization to this region. In 1865, American Major George Armstrong Custer fought at the Battle of Palo Alto against Mexican cavalry under Santa Anna and lost his left arm. A small community developed around Custer's battlesite near where he now lives in Ocotillo Hills. In 1901, railroad workers began construction on what would become Southern Pacific's Torrance Division Line between Lodi and Mexicali. This line would eventually become known as the Carlsbad Project due to nearby towns adopting similar names such as Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Presidio del Norte National Monument along its route. Starting in 1907, many farmers chose to move to the new city of Los Angeles because of its sunny climate and booming business opportunities during World War I. However, with an increased number of immigration laws during Prohibition (1912- 1933), many agricultural jobs went unfilled while German Americans took over some factory work positions that were traditionally held by Mexicans. In 1951, when Southern Pacific sold their portion of Torrance Division Line toUnion Pacific Railroad for $2 million dollars ($ today), much discussion ensued about whether or not to keep Calexico as a separate community within Union Pacific or merge with other adjacent communities in order to maintain ethnic diversity within one large railroad townscape rustling cattle became common pastimes among early residents due to lack of any other form of entertainment outside of watching American football games on Sundays or playing checkers in local parks . The result was that most people who lived here either retired after working all their life off the grid or adopted English speaking children so they could attend school while living close by . When railroads merged into newly created Amtrak in 1971, Calexico felt like it had been left behind – until one day a group of young engineers decided they wanted something more out there than just making tracks

Calexico is a city in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 25,879 at the 2010 census. Located on the San Joaquin Valley floor of inland Southern California, it was one of the most important agricultural and lumber towns in the region for many years. The town began as an encampment of prospectors on May 12, 1853 when they discovered rich gold near present-day Calexico. In 1863, during Mexican–American War tensions high because of reports of American troop movements through Central America towards Mexico City, General Armistead Lamar ordered a detachment from garrison duty at Tulare to search for gold in what would become Calexico. The town quickly became an industry center with its own railroad line and mills. Lumber production boomed starting in the 1870s due to increased demand from farms east of Sacramento that were built after California attained statehood as a U.S.-controlled territory in 1848. By 1900 Calexico had a population of 506 people and two banks; but by 1910 it had declined to 24 people and one bank. Prosperity returned around 1930 with the construction of Interstate 8 (I-8) which connected Los Angeles with Phoenix via Stockton and Modesto. Increased transportation linked these cities with where jobs were available then: agriculture or services such as trucking or laundry work for local residents who could now commute into larger metropolitan areas for better pay than they could find back home locally. This growth spurt led to new housing developments being built west of I-8 including Northridge apartments and shopping malls like Microsoft's CenturyLink Center - all within driving distance for workers commuting into Los Angeles or Phoenix then spending their days shopping or entertainment related activities outside their homes while still living close enough to their families to provide them with needed support systems should they experience any form of hardships while working long hours away from home--a problem that largely persisted until today given advances in technology that can easily be accessed by remote employees without ever having to leave their comfortable offices anywhere near major metropolitan areas
