The Camarillo Army National Guard was founded on November 6, 1881. The first unit to be raised in Camarillo was the 1st Battalion, California Volunteer Infantry. The battalion served in the Mexican-American War and during World War I. In 1917, the Camarillo unit was redesignated as the 333rd Infantry Regiment and fought in France and Belgium. The regiment also served in China during World War II. On July 5, 1944, the 333rd Infantry Regiment was redesignated as the 555th Infantry Regiment and served in Germany until 1945. The regiment disbanded on September 15, 1945.
