In 1987, the City Council adopted Resolution #1 establishing municipally-owned water and wastewater systems. The goals of this system were to provide citizens with better service and to reduce waste by cleaning up city streets and public facilities. The resolution also created a board to manage the municipally-owned water system and set aside funds for improvement projects. Today, the City operates two municipally-owned water systems: one supplying drinking supplies for residents within city limits; and the other providing irrigation for local agricultural purposes. In addition, various private wells are used by the City in supplementing its Municipal Water supply. The City's wastewater treatment plant is located on West First Street in downtown Camarillo. It treats all types of wastewater including stormwater discharge from homes and businesses as well as industrial effluent from manufacturing plants. The plant currently treats an average of 10 million gallons per day (m3/day).
