In 1984 camarilloland became one of eighteen unincorporated areas within the City of Industry boundaries when that city annexed portions of neighboring towns such as Westlake Village and Bel Air. In 1990 parts of Camarillo were annexed back into Ventura County after voters passed Proposition 187 which repealed most bilingual voting requirements for Californians over twenty years old living in other states or countries who didn't meet certain conditions such as speaking fluent English and having no felony convictions
