Dewey who served until 1940 when he retired due to age and ill health. The next Commandant was Commodore James P. Browne who served until 1946 when he resigned due to poor health. The next Commandant was Commodore Luther Jorgensen who served until 1953 when he retired due to illness and death at the age of 86 years old). Commodore Thomas Jethro Gibbs relieved Commodore Gibbs on September 1, 1953 and serve as the first Chief of Naval Operations (CNO).
Campbell is a small town in the southern part of California. It is located on the banks of the Sacramento River, about sixty miles northeast of Sacramento. The population was 4,711 at the 2010 census. Campbell was founded by Mormons in 1846 and named for Joseph Campbell, an American missionary who evangelized in India and Burma. Mormons first arrived in California in 1847, when they were driven out of Nauvoo, Illinois. They built a ranch near modern-day Campbell and named it Nauvoo after their destination. In 1851, Brigham Young directed his followers to move westward into what is now Northern California under the leadership of John Cranch. Mormon pioneers journeyed overland through Nevada and Utah before reaching California on November 12, 1852. The first permanent white settler in what is now Campbell was James Wetheralds, who arrived around 1854. Wetheralds hunted game for settlers near modern-day Campbell Lake while also building a cabin on his property. He married Lydia Purdy in 1860 and had one child before dying young from tuberculosis three years later at age thirty-seven. The couple's only daughtermarried James McDonald (1858–1941), an entrepreneur who founded McDonald's restaurant chain across America during the 1920s and 1930s
The Coast Guard was created in 1917 as the United States Revenue Cutter Service. It became an all-volunteer force in 1939. The Coast Guard is headed by a presidentially appointed chairman, who reports to Congress. There are five service branches: the Coast Guard Academy; the Coastal Security Force; the Patrol and Rescue Squadrons; and the Helicopter Wing. In 1935, the Coast Guard began providing law enforcement services on Long Island via boat and patrol airplane. In 1951, a helicopter squadron was activated and flew search-and-rescue missions during Hurricane Diana. The following year, helicopter boats were used to collect water samples from storm surges on Long Island Sound. The helicopters can also be used for coastal security patrols and other tasks such as tracking smugglers or terrorist suspects. Since its inception, the Coast Guard has made thousands of contributions to society including saving lives, promoting maritime safety, responding to natural disasters, helping protect America's coastline from piracy, rescuing people in distress, providing emergency medical care and more.

Campbell, California was founded by James Irvine in 1848 as a surveyor's station on the southern end of Rancho San Antonio. In 1851, Irvine and his brother-in-law, John B. Norton, bought land from the Mexican government for the community of Santa Ana. The first post office was established in 1850 and operated under the name of Rancho Santiago de los Caballeros. The town grew rapidly after several hundred residents platted it out in 1860. By 1870, Campbell had 1,500 residents and an agricultural economy based on raising livestock, grapes, fruit trees, hay crops and flowers. In 1875, a branch line of the Southern Pacific Railroad was completed through Campbell and its growth continued to increase until 1920 when it merged with Amtrak to form the Capitol Corridor. In 1925–1926 construction began on what is now Interstate 5 through Campbell; this increased traffic and contributed to increasing prices for housing in the town center. Today Campbell is a small but vibrant community that retains much of its pioneer culture including architecture from various periods throughout history including: Mission Revival (1860s), Bungalow/Craftsman (1920s), Art Deco (1930s), Spanish Colonial Revival (1940s), bungalow/craftsmans style (1950s) The missions that once characterized Campbell were dismantled following Mexican independence in 1821 and replaced by secular academies which served as schools for local children until they reached adulthood. These institutions are generally considered responsible for shaping both Campbell's character as well as its overall landscape around which it developed. Many of these structures still remain extant today though their use has changed over time: For exampleMission San Fernando Rey de las Nieves serves today as an art museum while Mission Santa Anita remains used primarily for horse racing purposes although some portions have been converted into apartments or commercial buildings One significant event that occurred during this time period was one of America's earliest elections; James Irvine won election to represent California at Washington D.C.. This event helped lay the foundation for American democracy which would later be adopted more fully within Mexico City itself In 1913 Los Angeles County was created from parts of Orange County and Riverside County; part of what would become Riverside County currently sits adjacent to UC Berkeley campus just south of downtown Los Angeles In 1932 extensions were made to I-5 eastward between Simi Valley and West Covina joining forces with State Route 163 forming a junction known then as "the triple crossroads" due to its location along three major routes connecting different parts of Southern California A new shopping mall called "Mountain View Plaza" was built west side near Redlands Boulevard in 1984 followed by two other malls – one located at Northridge Mall off Ventura Boulevard north suburban city Limits while another - Glendale Mall - opened on October 12th 1990 anchored by Sears & JCPenney inside former Sears building off Pico Avenue
Campbell is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 47,653 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Campbell were traders and missionaries from China who journeyed through the area in 1821. The town site was chosen because of its strategic location midway between San Francisco and Oakland on the Sacramento River. A post office called Campbell was established in 1826, and it grew rapidly due to agricultural production, especially corn farming. Manufacturing began in the early 20th century with a few small businesses making items such as shoes and bicycles. By World War II, Campbell had become an important manufacturing center for munitions and aircraft parts. After the war ended, economic growth slowed as suburbanization took hold in the area around town. But new development has begun to occur throughout downtown Campbell since 2000 thanks to various large-scale investment projects including a $110 million mixed-use project that includes an arena football team and luxury housing developments called "The District."
