Canyon Lake is a small community located in Kern County, California. It is bordered by the Donner River on the south and east, and Rialto Creek on the north. The community was founded in 1887 by early settlers who were looking for a place to protect their herds of cattle from local ramblers. The first post office was established in 1888. Today, Canyon Lake has a population of about 350 people and it is home to many military installations. These include Fort Irwin Army Base on the north side of town, Fort Carson National Monument to the west, and Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station to the south. After that it became an important staging ground for American forces during World War II before becoming an airbase used by both USAF (United States Forces Alaskan) jets and Japanese Imperial Navy bombers during those years too! Nowadays Camp Pendleton NAS provides housing for around 6500 servicemen/women throughout its three ranges - Range 1 features five runways; Range 2 has two parallel runways;and Range 3 offers three parallel runways plus taxiways! And don’t forget about Landing Zone 1 – home to USS Midway (CVN 71) – which can accommodate up to 10000 passengers! The first people to live here were the Tongva people. They built a village on the upper reaches of the river in about 1920. The Tongva people were originally from Taiwan. When they moved to this part of California they brought their language and culture with them. The Tongva people are considered squatters because they didn't sell land or give away any goods in return for help from settlers. When Europeans arrived in California they found these Indians living along the riverbanks. They wanted to trade with them so they built trading posts and began to learn about these Indian's ways of life. Eventually, traders made enough money to build towns near where these villages used to be located. These new settlements became known as Rancho La Brea (now Van Nuys). In 1879, John Culp founded Los Angeles County and started selling ranchlands around what is now Canyon Lake for $5 per acre . He named his new county after himself – canyon lake – because he thought it would make more sense than other names given to areas such as wildcat canyon or redwood creek canyon . In 1923 , two main trails ran through Los Angeles County – one went through downtown LA and was called State Route 20 while the other went through Orange County and was called State Route 63 . In 1927 both routes were combined into one route called State Route 66 which continues today as Interstate 5
