The Carlsbad Coffee Company was founded in 1912 by Elias W. Carls, who had been born and raised in the small town of Carlsbad, California. The company quickly became known for its high-quality coffee products, and it soon began to sell its beans all over the state of California. In 1916, the company opened its first store in Carlsbad, and it quickly became a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. In the 1920s, Elias W. Carls decided to focus his business more on cupcakes rather than coffee beans. This decision proved to be fateful; as coffee sales continued to grow strong, so did demand for both products! By 1930, the company had developed a large enough production capacity to begin manufacturing coffee pods outright! In 1955, Elias W. Carls passed away suddenly, leaving his son Aron behind as head honcho at the company. Aron continued to lead the business through tough times – he even survived a fire that destroyed most of their equipment in 1990! But despite all these challenges, Aron managed to keep the company afloat until he finally died in 2001. His son David took over from him at that point – but David too has since passed away (in 2013). Today, operations continue primarily through distribution networks throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon. The first European to visit Carlsbad was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. The area now known as Carlsbad was part of the Rancho del Rey Mexican land grant given to Francisco Lopez de Filández in 1836. In 1849, two American soldiers named John C. Fremont and George Armstrong Custer made an unsuccessful attempt to establish a post at what is now called Dutch Point on the San Diego River. In 1851, Captain James K. Polk ordered General Mariano Rivera to build a road from Fort Tejon into Carlsbad Springs for military purposes only. The road was later renamed Don Pedro Carrillo Boulevard in his honor. In 1870, Tepa Loma Dam was built on the Colorado River near present-day Don Valley Parkway and Don Valley Road south of town. This created Lake County and changed many aspects of local life including the number of jobs available to residents hereabouts because irrigation could be accomplished with only a few pieces of equipment imported from elsewhere. While mining operations were conducted here until about 1903 when all but one mine closed, agriculture became more important during this time as water supplies dwindled due to increased population growth around Los Angeles and other cities close by; however, Carlsbad's salt industry continued until 1912 when it too came to an end with new technology coming along which led to its replacement by fertilizer production."
