The Carpinteria National Guard was organized on December 15, 1915. The original purpose of the Carpinteria National Guard was to serve as a militia force for Carpinteria City. On November 10, 1916, the first national guard unit was formed in Carpinteria and named the 1st Battalion, California Bandits. The battalion served in various roles until it disbanded in 1919. In 1921, the 2nd Battalion, California Bandits was formed and served until 1927 when it merged with the 3rd Battalion, California Bandits. From 1928 to 1932, the 4th Battalion, California Bandits served as an inactive unit. In 1933-1934 a new organization called theCarpinteria National Guardsmen were created and assigned to patrol areas around town. This unit also served as an emergency response unit during World War II when local companies mobilized for military service. Beginning in 1946-1947 a new organization calledthe Carpinteria County Guard was created and assigned to provide law enforcement services in Carpinteria City and its surrounding areas. In 1951-1952 a new organization calledthe Southern Californias Militiawas created which consisted of reserve officers from other county militias who volunteered their time to help with policing duties within Southern California’s borders On May 9th 1957 two members of the 1st Battalion (Californian)Carpinteriabanditswere killed while serving as security guards at Disneyland Park when shots were fired from inside park property

Carpinteria, California is a city located in Ventura County, California. The population of Carpinteria was 37,392 at the 2010 census. In 1910, Carpinteria had a population of only 4 people. By 2000 it had more than 6700 residents and has grown rapidly ever since with new development in the area such as Dogpatch and Jack London Square. The City of Carpinteria was founded on November 20th 1886 by Edmond Beaumanuis when he purchased land from Ricardo Flores Magón for $1 an acre. The first Mayor of Carpinteria was George Prentice and the first Councilman were Wm Hurlbut and Asa Briggs. On December 5th 1886, grand opening day for the first post office in town took place with Mr. Elisha Furness serving as Postmaster General. In 1907 there were only 10 citizens living in town proper while 18 lived on or near the railroad tracks which bisected town limits at that time. However, during World War I when demand for munitions increased national tensions grew over neutrality so much so that military forces were called to quell any potential unrest this led to a decrease in population but an increase in businesses activity due to their need for employees during wartime production shortages that still exist today despite efforts by local officials to reverse this trend over 30 years later: “ Businesses have flourished because they have been able to find workers who could not be found anywhere else” (Larkin). On October 1st 1929 Carpinteria incorporated as a city under state law No 7805 giving it full rights granted by then Governor Hiram Johnson (D-LA) making it one of just six cities authorized to do so by state statute following actions taken by his predecessor Callahan shortly before his death allowing other cities including Santa Paula and Oxnard to take up the mantle without incident providing these six agencies functioned cooperatively rather than compete against one another like usual government structure at that time: “This unique system permits each city its own police department, fire department, library etc., while sharing services essential to all” (Galloway). The National Guard was established on July 15, 1790, by the Second Continental Congress as a force to provide an emergency response in the event of a war with Great Britain. In 1808, President James K. Polk authorized the organization of national guard units in every state. The first national guard unit was organized in West Virginia on November 2, 1812. On July 15, 1907, the National Guard Bureau was created and designed to manage the militia forces of each United States state and Territorial District. On November 5, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson ordered all military forces be turned over to the Department of Public Safety and Defense effective December 1st. This change in government structure left the National Guard without any defined purpose or mission and essentially became a paramilitary force used for law enforcement purposes only. Throughout World War II there were numerous changes to how the National Guard functioned including: (1) redeployment during World War II for duty in territories under Japanese occupation; (2) expansion into new states during peacetime; (3) activation for crowd control operations during Hurricane Katrina; (4) mobilization for Operation Desert Storm; and finally (5) deployment to Afghanistan following 9/11/2001. Carpinteria, California was first settled in 1847 by Captain John B. Mason and his wife, Laura. The area was part of the Rancho San Vicente de Gaviota Mexican land grant given to Captain Mason by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. The first post office in Carpinteria was established in 1851. By 1860, there were 7 buildings and 16 residents in the town. In 1867, the US Post Office moved to its present location on Main Street and began serving Carpinteria residents. In 1902, a school known as Mrs. Cook's School opened in Carpinteria and served until 1951 when it closed down due to financial difficulties. In 1959, Mayor Don Acheson dedicated a new park located at 655 South Vine Street in downtown Carpinteria which is now home to the Community Resource Center (CRC). The park had been proposed by Mayor Acheson several years earlier but never progressed beyond planning stages because of money woes faced by the city at that time. The City Council voted unanimously on December 6th, 1965 to appropriate $1 million from the city’s budget for the project which would include construction of a baseball diamond and other recreational amenities such as tennis courts and a playground for children of all ages. On January 8th 1966 groundbreaking took place for what would become one of Carpinteria’s most iconic landmarks-the Parkside Recreation Center (PARC). The building has served as both local government headquarters and community center ever since its inception; hosting events such as music festivals and village meetings alike! On October 3rd 1998, Hurricane Mitch struck southern California causing extensive damage throughout much of Ventura County including parts of Carpinteria where homes sustained heavy damage or total destruction including PARC which lost all contents inside including furniture, computers & artwork!Despite significant efforts made by local individuals & organizations much remaining damage still remains with large portions OF THE PARK WITHIN ½ mile OF CENTERLINE!
