Carson, California is a town located in the Central Valley of California. It is bordered by the Kern River to the east and west, and it has a population of over 60,000 people. Carson was named after George A. Carson, an American businessman who helped develop the town. The first post office in Carson opened on November 1, 1887. In 1911, Carson became one of fifty towns in what was then called Southern California. The name change came about because of resentment from other towns that were receiving better treatment from the state government than they were. By 1961, Carson had grown to around 100,000 people and it became an incorporated city on December 5, 1961. This system saw separate infantry battalions being formed into corps (or divisions), which could be divided into brigades (or wings). Infantry regiments continued to be raised through various upgrades throughout the nineteenth century; however, they increasingly became garrisoned armies with little offensive capability. In 1870–71, France annexe Mexico and become a republic. At this time there was an upsurge in calls for an increased French military presence abroad due to tensions between France and Austria over control of Germany. To meet this demand, Emperor Napoleon III passed a decree re-organizing the French military; this new decree called for regular infantry regimentations to be raised across all departments instead of brigade level organization. As a result, many disbanded rifle companies were reactivated as infantry companies and artillery batteries were converted into battalion-sized units (the grenadier unit had been kept intact since its creation during medieval times). In 1881 an act was passed Congress giving rise to three new corps: 1st Corps d’Athlone et de Lille 2nd Corps de Châteauroux 3rd Corps d’Oran
Carson, California was founded in 1847 by John C. Carson as a small rancho on the edge of the San Joaquin Valley. By 1860, Carson had developed a small town around his rancho and named it after himself, Carson City. The area now known as Carson City was first surveyed in 1853 by Lieutenant George Armistead and named for him. In 1903, the city was renamed Nevada County after then-Governor of Nevada Thomas J. Reid.
