The military has a long and varied history in Carson, California. The first military deployment in the area was on July 10, 1847 when the United States forces arrived to help Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna fight against rebels. From then until 1861, the area was under Mexican rule and there was no military presence. On February 25, 1862, the United States invaded California and took over Mexico's territory including Carson. The U.S. Military garrisoned the town for three years before withdrawing in 1866. After California became an American state in 1850, the U.S. Army began deploying troops to Carson from 1862 onwards as part of its efforts to control the border with Mexico. In 1865, General Nelson Acheson ordered Captain James Jarrell to establish aU S Military Post at Carson which remained in operation until 1898 when it was disbanded following World War I. In 1898, Carson became part of Nevada after that state seceded from America along with other western states during the Spanish-American War (1898-1902). During this time period, there were also annual deployments of American soldiers to support UN forces stationed in southern Nevada during peacekeeping operations such as those conducted between 1903- 1907 known as "the Reno Patrols." Beginning on October 1st 1918 Major General Edward Mott organized and commanded all American ground forces operating within what is now Northern California during World War I as part of II Corps Area command headquartered at Camp Randolph near Sacramento .[2] This included many communities located within or adjacent to today's Carson City boundaries including Nye Valley outside of town limits; Echo Valley just east of Interstate 5; Crocker Ranch east of US 97; Willow Springs west of US 395; Indian Wells south of US 95) . The population growth around these areas led gradually but surely to increased militarization with more medical supplies being brought into these rural areas for use by local militaries who manned posts and/or provided security for residents economic development inside or outside these towns continued unabated well into World War II
