The Cathedral City National Guard was organized on November 3, 1899. At that time, the city of Cathedral City had only a few hundred people and no military. The first troops were drafted from the citizens and businesses in town to form a militia to protect the city. From there, it grew quickly into a full-time national guard force. In 1911, local business owners donated land for their own military camp which would become Camp Carson. In 1916, both Camp Carson and Camp Fremont were merged into one commandant’s camp under the name of “National Guard Commandant” barracks barracks at 2233 North First Street. This location served as Headquarters for all National Guard forces in California until 1940 when it was replaced by Fort MacArthur in San Diego. During World War II, the National Guardsmen served with distinction in many battles including the Battle of Midway and Okinawa Massacre where they played an important role in suppressing Japan’s army during World War II. After the war ended, many soldiers returned home but some chose to stay on active duty with the National Guard as officers or warrant officers. As more women joined the military after World War II, so too did members of the National Guardsmen community choose to serve through various roles such as platoon sergeant (1948), captain (1957), colonel (1969), brigadier general (1978) and major general (1999). Today, there are over 2700 members of our state’s national guard service who serve proudly across California from Sacramento to Nevada! It is difficult to pinpoint the start of the National Guard in Cathedral City, but it is safe to say that they are there today because of the citizens who have joined them in support. The first group of soldiers arrived here in 1892 when California was still part of Mexico and were called “The Mexican Battalion”. In 1933, the California National Guard became an all-volunteer force under United States Constitution article IV, Section 8. The first national guard troops were stationed in Cathedral City as a deterrent against possible hostile takeover by Mexican forces. From 1934 to 1941, Cathedral City served as the home field for the U.S. Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force during World War II. The city also hosted training camps for both American and Japanese pilots during that time period. After World War II ended, many of these airmen returned home and continue their service with the National Guard through various deployments throughout California and other states until disbanded in 1972 at which time their personnel were absorbed into Regular army units or other state military branches

Cathedral City, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 3,813 as of the 2010 census. The name comes from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and was given to it by pioneers in 1853 who saw it as a possible place to build a church because of its strategic location near two major rivers. The first permanent settlement in what is now Cathedral City was made up of families that came overland from Yucca Valley during the Gold Rush era. They founded the towns of Independence and Enterprise on both sides of the Kern River. By 1857, all these settlements had been abandoned when gold was discovered at Tejon Pass outside of town. But it wasn’t until after General James Halleck defeated Mexican forces at Adobe Walls on November 16, 1847 that Mission San Joaquin de Arcadia became officially part of California. As part of this treaty, Mexico ceded control over much of southern California including most present-day Cathedral City including its then known as “Downtown” area which is now known as Sutter Street and portions of Capitol Hill and Elmira Streets east thereof; today’s downtown areas include parts north and west thereof; existing Mormon missions were also transferred to Californian hands under this agreement: Fort Mason (qv), San Bernardino (qv) and Monterey Mesa (qv). In 1848, work began on building what would become Sacramento’s first mission—the Sacred Heart Catholic Church—and by 1850, all but one mission in Southern California had been built thanks to donations from Mexicans living near Sacramento. Despite being smaller than other Native American settlements in Northern Mexico such as Yuma or Tijuana proper, Mission San Joaquin de Arcadia quickly became one of the most influential religious institutions in Mexican America due to its Kalifornian missionaries who taught Christianity here instead of their archdiocese back home where many people thought Catholicism should come from originally – an event subsequent historians have called “Mission Fever” which led some converts away from traditional Indian practices altogether while others embraced eastern European Catholicism brought over by Spanish colonists seeking new land for their religion. In 1886–87 USDOC constructed Bishop Kearny House within what are today Park Avenue/Euclid Avenue NE & 20th Street NW adjacent to current Cathedral Square park with $1 million raised through local phone advertising campaign The house saw use by prominent Californians like Governor Goodwin Olcott for State functions before eventually sold for $195,000 to developer Harry Chandler in 1938; following World War II Chandler donated it again (this time to Historic preservation organization) before finally closing shop completely in 1978 when he retired from business sdoc having funded much needed restoration work there since 1963masking his intent not onlyto restorebut alsoto demolish original structure
The first city in California was founded on January 24, 1846, by the brothers Gabriel and Joaquin Cuchillo. The name of the city was Mayfly because it was a small town at the mouth of the Sacramento River. The city became an agricultural center with a population of around 100 people. In 1859, Gold Rush miners discovered gold near Mayfly and started a mining camp there. By 1862, most of Mayfly had been destroyed by fire, but some buildings were saved and used as businesses. In 1865, Mayfly became the capital of Nevada Territory when California statehood was granted to that state. When Nevada Territory was dissolved in February 1867, its land became part of what is now Riverside County. In 1886, Riverside County emerged as one of the largest counties in California when it was formed from parts of Contra Costa and Kern counties. It gradually gained more populated areas until it had over 250,000 residents by 1910. During World War II (1939-1945), Riverside County played an important role in defense because its location made it easy to supply munitions to other parts of the country
