It also has an air control force of about 11,500 troops that provides support to land forces and airspace. The USAF operates 12 main bases around the globe, with an additional 100 smaller installations scattered throughout America and Europe. The USAF was founded on August 17th, 1947 as the United States Armed Forces Reserve Command. It was redesignated as the United States Air Force on September 2nd, 1949. On December 15th, 1950, President Harry S Truman made it a permanent organization with its own headquarters at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. The USAF flew its first mission in Korea on April 6th of that year. Air Combat Command (ACC) began operations on October 1st 1951 under General Hoyt Vandenberg Jr., Commander-in-Chief Military Airlift Command (MAC). It was redesignated as ACC on November 3rd 1954 when MAC became part of CENTAF (the Central American Air Forces). Inactivated on January 27th 1959 were I Bomber Command which merged into Strategic Air Command (SAC), while Tactical Fighter Wing Four demobilized on July 28th 1957 and reactivated at Shaw AFB California under First Wing Thirteenth Air Force; concurrently activated First Wing Fourteen also activated from McConnell AFB Kansas Territory as a fighter wing providing training for F-86D Sabre pilots destined for Southeast Asia! These changes along with increased Defense Budget constraints forced all wings to revert back to their peacetime numbers by summer 1958! Withdrawal of McDonnell Douglas Phantom jets from service beginning in early 1960 led to abolition of Tactical Fighter Wing Two (TFW2) effective March 1st 1961! This left TFW4 commanding all UHF/VHF flying activities worldwide except Okinawa where it continued until May 1964 when it transitioned to Boeing EH-6 Dolphin aircraft! Inactivation followed again: Bendix AESA AWACS unit inactivated effective June 30th 1966; last fighter squadron reductions occurred during 1970s when Republic F-105C Thunderchiefs were phased out after successful competition with Northrop Grumman F9F Panther jet fighters In 1969 general Dynamics FAE Systems electronic warfare center become operational conducting interceptor tests using AN/AAQN(G) 66 Meteor missiles against surface targets over Pacific Ocean

Cerritos is a city in southern California, located on the San Gabriel River. The population of Cerritos was 153,821 as of the 2010 census and it is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The earliest known inhabitants of Cerritos were Native American tribe called the Tongva. In 1847, land grantee José Báez founded Rancho Aguaje de Cerritos on what is now eastern San Bernardino County. A year later, he sold some property to James Wolkentin for $2,500. Wolkentin named his new holdings after him – Aguaje de Cerritos (meaning "bank of cerulean waters"). On February 14, 1849, Wolkentin notified Mexico that he had acquired title to Rancho Aguaje de Cerritos from José Báez and had started settlement there. Mexican grants were issued for cattle ranching in Southern California beginning in 1853. On October 15, 1860 at the hands of Governor Manuel Micheltorena an Act became effective entitled "An Act Prohibiting People From landing on American Soil" which prohibited all immigrants except those under contract with certain Mexican governments from settling in this territory east of Alameda Street within one year or they would be deported back to Mexico without any compensation. By 1870 over 80% of the population living outside Los Angeles was composed of Mexicans who worked either in agriculture or artisanal trades outside their home countries

The name Cerritos comes from Spanish meaning "Island of the stream" and refers to an Islet off of Coyote Creek on San Pedro Island.
