Cerritos, California is home to the Air Force Base and its many capabilities. The base has been a mainstay in the community for more than 50 years, with many residents contributing their time and resources to ensure that it remains an important part of military life here. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has been Cerritos’ primary cultural partner since 1951. LACMA provides a unique opportunity for citizens and visitors to explore art from all over the world through exhibitions, learning experiences, and research programs. Cerritos’ rich airforce history is on display at various locations throughout the city. One of the most significant moments in Air Force Base history occurred when Lt. Col. Edward "Bull" Landis became Commanding Officer in May 1945 after Capt.(jg) Leroy Hixon was killed in action during World War II. As Commanding Officer, Landis quickly put his stamp on squadron operations by establishingirmanship practices which remain today as some of the most fundamental principles of fighter aviation today. He also developed new training and USAF airborne warfare tactics which have made him one of America's most honored war heroes. On September 11th, 1954 MajGen Elmo Zumwalt assumed command from LtCol Bull Landis due to Zumwalt's majority vote as Commander-in-Chief Pacific Division Headquarters staff during an AFHQ reorganization following USAF successes against Japanese forces at Midway Island and Okinawa Bay Operation (the first major victory over Japan in postwar Asia). LtCol Landis had earlier retired effective October 1st due to age 70 years old while MajGen Zumwalt remained active duty until his retirement on October 15th upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65 years old; he would have celebrated his seventieth birthday just six weeks later on December 5th had he not prematurely retired due to illness brought about by stress related to command responsibilities leading up to 9/11/01 . Zumwalt's successor as Commanding Officer was Col John Sperry with responsibility for Southern California Wing activities located at Edwards AFB prior then moving northward along I-5 into Goldwater AFB adjacent current day San Diego County Airport before finally being transferred back eastward into Cerritos AFB effective November 1st 1978 with jurisdiction over all Air National Guard activity within Orange County including neighboring Riverside County . With 3 wings divided into 4 groups each responsible for support wing squadrons assigned principally overseas deployments or special missions(eases embargo etc.), CAGS grew rapidly from 10 persons (1 officer 2 enlisted men) in early 1980s thru upwards of 30+ people by late 1990s under numerous commanders including 6 lieutenant colonels/chief master sergeant generals concurrently commanding nearly 400 enlisted soldiers & officers concurrently operating simultaneously plus numerous civilians performing various support functions - currently numbering approximately 60 airmen & civilians employed fulltime equivalents (& growth potential) . The USAF has also become known for its Novena Award program which provides unique items and experiences related to aviation, science fiction, technology, transportation or other interests to active duty servicemen and women across all branches of service USA Today reported that “the Novena Awards are named after Father John Misty’s latest album release, an Episcopal Priest named Noel (Noel Tilton) wrote about each one – something that often happens when an American soldier gives a gift valued at $1 million or more…. only 25 percent are accepted but they usually include something new in addition to an antique plane or watch” (Gift History). These annual awards recognize civilian contributions made towards aviation research, development and innovation within our Branch Of Service

This registry was designed to provide a centralized location for members of the USAF to find and purchase items specific to their interests. The first gift was a set of keys to an airplane. From there, the gift history continued with many different types of items, including medals and insignia, aircraft parts, tools and equipment, vehicles, and more.

The City X Awards program provides financial support to selected municipalities through Citigroup's philanthropic arm – Citigroup Philanthropy USA Incorporated – which distributes money directly to local programs that improve public health and well-being across all areas including education, job training and housing initiatives nationwide."

The town grew rapidly due to the production of a variety of agricultural products, including citrus fruits, wine and beer, and Textile City Industries Incorporated (TICI). In 1929 TICI merged with other textile companies to form United Textile Corporation (UTC). UTC continued to produce goods for export until it ceased operations in 1984. Cerritos' economy changed dramatically following World War II as the war led to an increase in military spending and a rise in demand for munitions across the nation. This led to a boom in manufacturing and retail businesses throughout the postwar period, which has helped make Cerritos one of California's largest cities.
