Chino AFB was reactivated on 1 September 1951 under activation command of Second Air Force activated at RAF Lakenheath England as an AAFB base after World War II ended. It saw increased activity due to Korean War hostilities which began on 25 June 1950 and lasted until 27 July 1953 when North Korea successfully invaded South Korea resulting in a conflict known as The Korean War (1950-1953). A detachment of KC-135 Stratotankers from Dyess AFB Texas flew supplies into North Korea during Operation Homecoming providing aerial refueling support; this operation also included strafing runs against suspected enemy facilities inside North Korea used by Controller General Kim Il Sung’s regime to consolidate power before his eventual surrender on 15 May 1953 following negotiations with United Nations forces led by General Douglas MacArthur.

Chino is a small town located in Kern County, California, about 20 miles southeast of Bakersfield. At the time of the 2010 census, its population was 9,441. The name "Chino" is from the Mono language and means "place where there are mills." Chino's first post office opened in 1881. The town was platted in 1887 by Don Bolles and named for his Rancho Chino de la Vega Mexican land grant near downtown. In 1892, Chino became an incorporated city with a population of 15 people. It has since grown to over 100 residents. The history of Chino goes back to the early 1800s when ranchers brought their herds of sheep and cows to this area. After years of being used as grazing lands and later as a mining district, ChINO became a town in 1886 when it was chosen as one of four townships in Kern County that would be formed from portions of two earlier settlements - Bakersfield and Wiley Post. The other three townships were Mayaca (now part of Ceres), Lancaster and Ukiah. In 1907, following passage by Congress providing for county government within the new state of California, Mayor Smedley Butler proposed annexing part of Kern County to make it into a separate county for Los Angeles proper; but this proposal failed to gain support among local officials who felt that annexation would mean less detached breathing space for their own communities east OF La Jolla Cove which had been populated largely by Mexican American workers since before Angelenos even set foot on these shores. In 1912 Mayor Butler successfully petitioned the State Legislature to create an angular shaped park at what is now called First Street/Old Town plaza between Main Street and Railroad Avenue - also known then as Chavez Ravine - on what had been ranchland west OF downtown Chino after some developers had acquired title to large blocks adjoining railroad tracks adjacent rancher José Antonio Reyes' holdings east OF downtown (later developed into Northridge). This park centerpiece still stands today beneath streetscape which has changed very little since its creation: An L-shaped open courtyard surrounded by trees heightened on each side with Ionic columns supporting high arches richly carved with Corinthian capitals depicting historial scenes from Mexico City such as Gabriel García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years Of Solitude (1926) across one face flanked by busts or portraits representing various prominent San Gabriel Valley families including those associated with Rancho Temescal (Temescal Heights), including General José Joaquín Arguelles y Conejo; Sr.'s Manuel Nieto family heirs apparent successors thereto Juana Moreno Navarro & Vicente Nieto; Goodyear Tire Co.; Mrs.[First Name] Hockaday donated land (& property rights) for football field; 2nd Bank Building erected 1915-16
Chino was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late 18th century. The area now known as Chino was part of Rancho San Francisco de Asís, which was given to Mission San Francisco de Asís by Spain in 1792. The mission's first pastor, Father Junípero Serra, founded a small town called Asis on the east side of the mission for Catholic missionaries and their families. In 1821, Mexico acquired California from Spain through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and Chino became part of Mexican California. The post office at Chino opened in 1827, and it remained open until 1914. In 1848, Chino became an incorporated city under state law. In 1860, its population reached 10,000 people; however, it only grew slowly until the turn of the 20th century when heavy industry began to arrive and create new jobs. By 1915 Chino had reached 30,000 people; however its growth stopped abruptly due to World War I and Prohibition efforts. Afterward its population gradually declined again until 2000 when it hit 40,000 residents again.
