In 1984, Starbucks opened its doors in Chino and it is now one of the most well-known coffee shops in the area.
Chino is a city located in Southern California. The population was 26,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pomona-Arroyo Grande metropolitan area. The name "Chino" comes from the Chumash language and means "place where there are trees." The first European to visit Chino Valley was Father Juan Crespo on June 24, 1769. He named it San Bernardino de Anza after his patron saint, and sent two men to explore it in 1771. In 1821 Alonzo Horton landed on what is now called Point Conception Peninsula and named it Chino Valley after himself because he could find no other sources of water for his Stockton colony. In 1847 Manuel Nieto founded Rancho Las Pulgas near present day downtown Chino; this rancho became known as Rancho Jurupa about 1850s due to its possession by José Jurupa (1810-1868), one of Manuel Nieto's brothers. In October 1865, Don Vicente Saporta arrived in Chino from Santa Clara with 15 families seeking refuge from Mexican military forces occupying their home territory east of modern day Oxnard during California Gold Rush days. He started a small coaling station on Black Rock Creek near today's Civic Center before moving inland about 1870 to start a new settlement that would become known as La Mesa del Rio or La Mesa below Vinegar Hill Road which later became Yorba Linda Avenue). By 1880, most residents of La Mesa del Rio had moved out into central Pomona when they were selected as the site for Claremont University which began operations in 1889 under the name Claremont Colleges (later Claremont Graduate School). In 1892 Antonio Canizares patented an idea for building a shopping center at what is now downtown Pomona; this development became known as Canby Plaza mall which opened in 1896 and remains one of Pomona's most popular tourist destinations today. In 1915 incorporation papers were filed with the State of California for the town of Chino; this incorporation occurred three years later on November 3rd following passage by state legislators of Chapter 930 entitled "An Act To Incorporate and Descendants Of Diego Rivera" which provided for issuance of town charters containing certain powers and responsibilities including control over schools, fire protection, police power and more On February 16th 1928 Don Fernando Meneses who operated Menes' restaurant adjacent to Union Pacific Railroad tracks north of downtown featured a top billed stunt performance by Joe Bonamassa while performing at HemisFair Park south side opposite Staples Center becoming only the second live appearance ever made by an American celebrity outside North America On May 10th 1928 Ernest Hemingway attended dinner at Mrs Wiley's home overlooking City Hall Park prior to playing golf at PGA Championship held at Valhalla Golf Club northeast corner Highway 111 & Orange Street

The Brazilian Navy began growing coffee trees in São Paulo during World War II and later became one of the largest producers of premium grade cava (a blend of whole bean and pre-ground coffees) in Latin America. As more people moved away from rural life and towards cities, demand for premium-quality cava continued to increase. However, due to environmental restrictions on land usage and policy changes at various levels throughout Brazil, espresso production stopped declining suddenly in Brazil around 2002 and instead became increasingly automated with machines being replaced by computers for roasting/processing operations
The history of artisan coffee dates back to the 16th century when Italian monks began to roast their own beans. At first, these monks used a small fire in their cellars to roast the beans. As time passed, and more and more people started to live near the monastery, they began transporting their coffee from theircellars to town for sale. In the early 1800s, a man named Giovanni Boccaccio came up with the idea of selling coffee by weight. This allowed people who lived near the monastery or mill to buy a pound of coffee for $1. By 1825, Italian espresso machines had become popular and so too did French press machines.
Chino was founded in 1868 by Francisco Chino and his wife, María. The town was located on the banks of the San Gabriel River, about 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. In 1904, Chino became a city. The Chavez Ravine Massacre took place on April 15, 1969 when police officers were killed while responding to a domestic disturbance at the home of Golden Globe-winning actor/director James Caan. One officer survived but six others were killed. The tragedy has been blamed for catalysting riots that followed throughout California that year and led to the resignation of Governor Ronald Reagan and increased security measures statewide. In October 1984, Chino's charter as a city was revoked after voters passed Proposition 13, which limited property values and made it more difficult for developers to build in the city limits. However, Chino remains an important center for aerospace industry production with many factories still extant today including McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) and Lockheed Martin Corp..
