The Chino National Guard was organized on May 25, 1911. It was the result of a merger of the Rancho San Bernardino and Rancho Tejon Guards. The first unit to be activated was the 119th Infantry Regiment. The Guard has seen many changes over its history, but it is generally considered to be one of the most decorated units in California. It has earned numerous awards, including two Presidential Medals of Freedom and three Congressional Gold Medals. Today, there are over 6,000 members of the National Guard in California. They play a major role in our state militia system and are often called upon to respond to mother nature's disasters such as earthquakes or wildfires. In addition to their duties within our state militia system, they also serve as an important part of law enforcement in Chino County and throughout Southern California.

Chino is a small town in the Inland Empire of California. It is located about 25 miles east of Los Angeles and 10 miles south of San Bernardino. The population was 7,836 at the 2010 census. Chino's nickname is "The City by the Sea."
Chino's history dates back to 1847 when it was part of Rancho Tejon Mexican land grant. A year later, Chino became a town under control of the United States government because of its strategic location on an important military road connecting Los Angeles and San Bernardino County.
In 1969, Chino adopted its current name, derived from two early settlers, Charles S. Chin and his wife Anna Maria Chin. The Chin family operated a grocery store in Chino for many years before selling it in 1978 to local entrepreneur Harry Ransom Jr., who then built a shopping mall that remains one of the town's most popular tourist attractions today.
Today, Chino boasts more than 20 businesses including three universities - Southern University (now Pomona) and Claremont McKenna College; four hospitals - Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Coeur d'Alene Memorial Hospital, Irvine Valley Medical Center and Stockton Regional Medical Center; two golf courses; two tennis courts; four public schools - Eastgate Elementary School District #1 (K-6), Northridge Middle School District #2 (7-12), South Gate High School District #3 (13-18); as well as six private schools - Pacific Christian Academy (K-8), Cathedral Catholic High School (9-12), Sacred Heart Academy (13-18), Stonington Preparatory School (14+).
This vibrant community also includes several dozen acres of state parkland which offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and fishing as well as a number of cultural activities such as concerts and art shows throughout the year.

The National Guard mobilized for service throughout the war and continued to be a strong presence until after 9/11 when they were again activated domestically as part of Operation Neptune's Spear.
Chino, California is a city in the San Diego County area of Southern California. The population was 25,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles area and is included in the OC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Chino is located on a long, narrow stretch of beach between Point Loma and La Jolla. The first known inhabitants of what became Chino were Native American traders who visited the area during pre-historic times. The town began to be settled in 1853 by Nathaniel Hawthorne and his family after they bought land from Juan Enriquez for $500. The town was named for General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who had been defeated at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. Mexican nationals were brought over as settlers and built homes around 1855-1857; however, most Chinos were Anglo until after World War II when immigration increased to meet postwar labor needs. In 1957, the state Legislature approved plans to change the name to “Chino” after then-Governor Evans announced that he would seek a statewide mandate to change all local government titles in southern California due to concerns about an impending influx of Asians into white areas during this period of social transformation across America. By 1959, streets throughout Chino had been renamed for people or events associated with Californian history since 1913 such as Alameda Street (for Governor Goodwin Carman), Celeste Avenue (for Mrs. Richard Noyes), MacArthur Boulevard (for Admiral Chester Nimitz), Mesa Avenue (Mrs. Harold Ives) and Huntington Drive (Dr.) Jack London Jr.'s birthplace Vista del Rey Road followed suit soon thereafter making it one of only few cities nationwide which saw its entire downtown renamed something other than its original moniker following incorporation within city limits regardless of whether it had originally been so! Today, many residents still refer to their neighborhood names even if they no longer live there as they experienced some aspect or event related thereto during their childhood! Chino was founded in 1853 by Josef Chino and his brother Antonio. The Chinos were the first Californians to secure land grants from the United States, and they built a small community on the edge of present-day Chino Hills. They named their new town Chino because of the abundant oak trees that had been grown there since before California became a state.
