Chino, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley on the east side of the Central Valley. The population was 2,857 at the 2010 census. It is located within Fresno County. The name comes from Spanish meaning " canyon." Chino's first post office was established in 1874. In 1882, it became a county seat and remained so until 1959 when it was moved to Fresno. The early years of Chino were spent ranching and farming with occasional mining operations taking place as well. By 1910, however, Chino had become an important educational center with over 100 elementary schools and 10 high schools providing education for residents of Chino and surrounding areas as well as students from Fresno and other parts of central California. During World War II, Chino played an important role in the war effort by producing materials for military use such as munitions and tires. After the war ended, many businesses closed down but others like Master Lock opened up which continues to be a major employer today. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture but there are also some small businesses that have cropped up in recent years that are founded by local entrepreneurs or people who move to this area because of its relaxed regulations regarding business ownership

Chino is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 67,821. Chino's name comes from an 1847 Mexican land grant to José María Chino.
