Chowchilla, California is a small town in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the greater San Diego metropolitan area. The first coffee beans were grown in Chowchilla in 1868 by José Ortega and his wife Concepcion Gomez. The first café in Chowchilla opened its doors on February 15th of that year. In 1875, Antonio Gonzales started to sell coffee from his home on First Street just east of Union Avenue. In 1915, Angelo Bonomi founded the Bonomi Coffee Company and began processing beans from the Cholla Mountains near Chowchilla into their own blend for sale throughout Southern California and Nevada. In 1928, Harry Fenton sold his interest in the company to Angelo's son Dino and Harry took over as President and CEO until his death in 1984. In 1986, Harry's son John Fenton succeeded him as President and CEO of Bonomi Coffee Company. Since then, Angelo's grandson Mauricio has been running the business with continuing family support; he also currently serves as Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing for our global network of cafes located around the world descendants of José Ortega continue to grow coffee trees all around San Diego County while also operating commercial cafés On October 3rd 1907, a group of friends from Chula Vista (now part of San Marcos) pooled their money together to purchase one acre (0.40 km²) piece of land along El Cajon Boulevard between First Street/Anaheim Boulevard and Valley Drive for $2 per acre (1 tripels parcellated). This property became known as "The Rancho". After years working day and nightilling with their rented machinery they managed to bring forth two bushels pounds (24 kg) per day yielding an excellent quality crop which they named 'Coffee' after Lorenzo de Borja y Martinez who surveyed this land for them while living at Coyote Springs nearby They realized that it would only take some time before someone could realize how valuable this place actually was so they decided to name it after themselves: Pancho Villa & Juan Pablo Montt
