The history of the Coast Guard in Chowchilla, California dates back to the early 1800s. The first organized coast guard detachment was created in 1847 and patrolled the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1863, a new coast guard station was built on Angel Island in Northern California. From here, officers and men patrol the waters surrounding Angel Island and China Beach Naval Air Station. In 1933, the Coast Guard merged with the United States Navy to become one unified service. At this time, Coast Guard vessels were manned by both American military personnel and civilian volunteers from throughout California. On January 1, 1935, all federal maritime law enforcement functions of the Coast Guard were transferred to USCG jurisdiction under Director of Criminal Investigations James Phelan. This move relieved USCG resources from criminal investigation activities which had been conducted by Department of Justice officials responsible for that area of law enforcement. Chowchilla is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 4,521 at the 2010 census. Chowchilla is located at (34.271401, -119.965859). The town of Chowchilla was founded in 1867 by James Wetherbee and his wife Anna Jane Dirksen. It had a population of only 158 people when it incorporated as a townsite on November 14, 1867. In 1870 the Cholla Company constructed the first post office in Chowchilla and delivered mail to residents from San Francisco until 1906. The discovery of oil near Kernville in 1902 led to an influx of new settlers to Chowchilla and its adjacent valleys during the early 1900s. By 1905 there were over 100 businesses operating in Chowchilla with an average daily income of $2,500 ($ today). The boom years ended around 1915 when production dwindled due to World War I and Prohibition efforts; however, local industries have continued up through prohibition and into the present day including lightmanufacturing and agriculture. In 1925 Mayor Harry Cavanaugh established what is now known as "Cavanaugh Park" which includes land that once housed a flour mill that closed down during Prohibition. Today's park features a playground, tennis courts, basketball court, skateboardpark and more for locals and visitors alike to enjoy!

Chowchilla, California is a small town in the Kern County of Southern California. It was founded by Mexicans in 1847 and named for the Cholla cactus. The first post office was established in Chowchilla on May 5, 1848. The population of Chowchilla enumerated at 1,527 in 1880. In 1907, an oil well was drilled near Chowchilla and production began that year. In 1916-1920 the local school district served as an armistice between World War I and World War II; it closed when the war ended. The first mention of Chowchilla dates back to 1847 when Mexican soldiers were sent to garrison a ranch called Rancho San Francisco de las Californias east of Chowchilla below Utopia Peak on Menifee River near present day Buena Park. They discovered a salt water creek which they named “Cholla Creek” due to its resemblance to the Cholla cactus found throughout Mexico and Central America. A post office was established at this location on May 5th, 1848 under the name “Chowchinga” with jurisdiction over alluvial lands within three miles of its mouth including Rancho San Francisco de las Californias now part of Chowchilla Village limits. In 1907 an oil well was drilled about one mile west of current day exit 21 off state Route 116 north of town (now known as North Bend Road). This produced natural gas which allowed for easy access from Los Angeles during wartime shortages caused by construction along Interstate 10 in nearby Kern County while large amounts of petroleum products wereproduced in other parts of the US (due mainly to fracking). However, because public transportation wasn't available then or still isn't today, families had to walk or bike their way upriver each morning carrying groceries back down after work until supplies ran out at nightfall; this resulted in some very physical challenges for residents over time especially given that there wasn't then any paved roads leading into town from outside miles! The high school mascot until recently has been "The Warriors" since it opened general admission enrollment program on October 1st 1941 following years where girls played football and boys played basketball concurrently (at least according to historical records!). After years being co-sponsored by both men's/women's golf programs separately through inter-school tournaments etc., girls finally took over full sponsorship beginning with Season 7 Girls' Open held Feb 13-16th 2018 featuring top talent from around CA Valley!
