From the late 1800s until World War II, Chowchilla was home to many famous gourmet coffeehouses including The Dutchman (1892), The Ritz (1902), Balthazar (1910), The Belle Epoque (1915), The Four Seasons (1920), La Caffè del Lago (1925) and Café Continental (1945). After World War II, many of these businesses were displaced by new cafes that sprang up throughout town. However, one remaining notable gourmet coffeehouse from before World War II is The Dutchman Cafe which still stands today as a reminder of what could be had at this particular location back then. From 1945 through 1982, Chocolate Palace Café was an iconic fixture in Chowchilla – serving up delicious chocolate drinks all day long! It’s now closed but its legacy lives on through its namesake café which offers amazing food experiences such as chocolate soups or challah bread pudding with espresso cream cheese frosting. These days you can find Chocolate Palace Café products sold online or even at local antique stores across town! Chowchilla is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 3,587 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kern County. The name means "the valley of the cholla cactus." The town was founded in 1875 by Will Rogers and his brother-in-law George Earle on land near Presentation Valley as part of what would become Kern County. The first post office in Chowchilla was established in 1876. A year later, the town received its charter from Governor John Nichols. In 1916, Chowchilla became an incorporated city and annexed the unincorporated community of Glenwood Springs to its north. In 1932, it obtained a water filtration plant from Southern Pacific Railroad which helped make Chowchilla one of the most polluted cities in California; however, it regained some cleanliness by passage of Proposition 65 in 1978 which prohibited local government from contributing money to any venture that did not meet State air quality requirements. In 1984, Chowchilla again became an incorporated city when it annexed Rancho Mirage to its west. However, this annexation did not rename the city after Rancho Mirage but instead renamed it "Chowchilla" after Will Rogers ( founder and first mayor). Only two years later in 1988 another annexation occurred when Bakersfield merged with Chowchilla creating a new city with a population over 7500 people; however this merger also failed to rename the city after Bakersfield but instead named it "Bakersfield".

Chowchilla, California is a small town located in Fresno County, California. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. Chowchilla is part of the San Joaquin Valley. It has a stretched out location on the eastern edge of Fresno County and is bordered by Adelanto to the north, Chico to the east, Porterville to the south andjoins Madera County to the west. The first people who came to this area were Native Americans. They were probably nomadic group that migrated from Mexico overland and on foot over many years. There are still some evidence of their presence in present day Chowchilla vicinity dating back as early as 1868 when Colonel John Sutter's party explored these lands for new grazing land for his Rancho Atwater venture. A post office called Chowchilla was established in 1865, but it was not until 1889 that a store opened here with Wm Henson as manager and Jno Ladd as clerk. It wasn't until 1907 that Sam Rayburn became Mayor of Fresno when he won an election against James Mapes from Los Angeles.. In 1911-12 there was an agricultural fair at which goods such as eggs, bacon, butter and lard were sold along with livestock including cows, horses and pigs which attracted buyers all across Southern California.. In 1920 Chowchilla had a population of 350 citizens while it had 1 grocery store then it grew rapidly with 5 stores opening within 10 yearsacquiring 100 acres (40 hectares) of land from Mr Fenton in 1930 For many years Chowchilla functioned independently from other towns in Fresno County although they shared water rights for irrigation purposes which allowed them to maintain close economic ties with their surrounding communities even during tough times During World War II most residents took jobs either serving in military or Government agencies or working on farms outside of town although there were some who did manage to stay behind because they found employment opportunities available closer home In 1951 all residents except one voted into incorporation creating what would become known today as "Chowchilla" Incorporation . A year later school started up again after being discontinued since 1913 .. finally starting classes on October 12th 1952 under guidanceof Mrs Cramer .. The first girl teacher Ms Lillian Smith taught here .. priorto her appointment Mrs Fenton managed instruction .. During 1955-1965 enrollment increased by 50% due largely to commute students coming into town for local high schools such as Lone Oak High School located just east of town . On top off this growth another high school open its doors named after Driscoll family patriarch Commodore George Washingtons Columbian High Schoolopened in 1965 making Chowchlla/Adelanto/Porterville 3rd largest high school district east of Sacramento In 1984-1985 Gaylord Perryman purchased about 175 acres (60 hectares) northeast corner lot adjacent Toeppen Dam sitefor use as housing developmentnamed Perryman Manor now known simplyas Perryman Park . This single purchase initiated what would be known throughout much different parts Of Americaas Contra Costa Regional Water District's (CCRWD) major water project beginninginstallationofirrigation systems , maintenanceand expansionofthe damsite . After 19 yearsduringwhich time Over $200 millionwasspentontheprojectincluding$113millioninpurchasedfromvariouslabor organizationsandcontractors
