The California National Guard was organized on November 16, 1879. The first regiment to be organized in the state of California was Company A, Second Battalion, Sacramento County Volunteers. The company was stationed at Fort Yuma and soon afterwards moved to Chico. In 1881 the regiment was redesignated as Company G, First Battalion, Sacramento County Volunteers and then as Company C, Second Battalion, Sacramento County Volunteers. On July 1st 1898 the regiment became a battalion under command of Major General John B. Pershing when he arrived in Northern California from New Mexico with his division of American Expeditionary Forces. In 1899 the battalion became part of Special Service Brigade under Major General Edward Momyer which increased its strength to twelve companies and one squadron. From 1903 until 1912 it served in Hawaii with distinction before returning home for good in 1913. In 1920 the battalion again changed designation becoming Company I (Majors), Fourth Battalion (Sacramento County) National Guard after being reactivated at Camp Hope outside Sacramento following World War I hostilities Oklahoma City earthquake 1917 munitions workers strike 1919-1920
Chowchilla, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,511 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Kern River between Bakersfield and Tulare Counties. Chowchilla is part of the Bakersfield–Tulare Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1868 by Mexican Americans working on the Central Pacific Railroad as a railroad stop for travelers travelling north to Fresno and San Bernardino. The name "Chowchilla" comes from an Apache word meaning "place where there are many trees." In 1884, Chowchilla had two stores and one school; by 1890 it had six stores and four schools. In 1912, a post office was established at Chowchilla with Wm. Ladd as first mail carrier Chowchilla has been home to a number of businesses over the years including various agricultural products plants such as Pico Agrochemical Company (now SPCA), Chow Chilla Dairy Farm, and Cholla Farms Incorporated which manufactures cholla fruits that are used to make tequila and other alcoholic drinks; shoe manufacturing plants including Mid-America Shoe Corporation (now Nike) and American Shoe Corporation (now Sears); auto parts suppliers such as Samardzija & Sons Truck Parts company; papermaking businesses like United Paperworkers Local 294; wastewater treatment plant operators like Sanitation District No. 5 of Kern County Incorporated; educational institutions such as Stonington College Preparatory School District 123; and several churches including First Baptist Church of Chowchilla which owns land in the town square.
There has always been a National Guard in the United States. The first national guard unit was organized on July 4, 1792, during the American Revolution. There were also units raised for local defense and state militia during the 1800s. However, it wasn’t until 1907 that the National Guard was given its own congressional charter as an independent branch of government. The first modern day National Guard unit to be activated was called Company E of the 127th Infantry Regiment (National Guards) mobilized for service in World War II. This regiment was composed of soldiers from New York City and New Jersey. The company sustained heavy losses in combat but still fought bravely under General George Custer and his 7th Cavalry Regiment during World War II. Today there are over 350,000 active duty members of the National Guard in the United States with at least one battalion or brigade stationed across all 50 states! These troops play an important role both domestically and abroad! From providing support to law enforcement efforts to guarding vital infrastructure, these troops are ready and willing to fight when needed!

Chowchilla is a small town located in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera-Pico Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent Anglo settlers in Chowchilla were miners who arrived during 1848 from Nevada. They named their settlement after an Indian chief they had contact with on their trip up the San Joaquin River. By 1860, there were only six families living in Chowchilla; all of whom farmed until railroads made it possible to commute to jobs in nearby cities. In the early 20th century, Chowchilla was a mainstay on the local wine industry and its production still continues today; however, due to vineyard closures and other factors such as climate change, Chowchilla's wine production has dwindled significantly over the years. During World War II, many Japanese Americans lived in and around Chowchilla before being moved into internment camps near Tulare Lake northwest of Fresno. In 1947, following passage of the American Civil Rights Act (ACA), Chowchilla became one of several towns within Fresno County that refused to comply with forced integration into racially segregated public schools despite protests by its residents. Despite this protestations by some members of the community prior to implementation of busing in 1969–1970,[1] most white people continued to attend integrated classes throughout that decade until Brown v Board of Education (1954) limited African American enrollment at public schools statewide under Title V desegregation laws.[2] Chowchilla saw heavy military presence during World War II with over 2200 men from various enlistments serving here at home or abroad; nevertheless no town was ever completely destroyed by combat or bombing raids like much later Anaheim Hills/Fresno/Norman/Ontariotowns did[3]. Although post-war growth has led to increased suburban development outside town limits since then,[4], most residents continue resided inside town limits for fear that further subdivision would place them at risk for eminent domain seizure should redevelopment proposals reach their doorstep[5]. However annexation by neighboring city Menifee has not stopped recent efforts by city officials[6] to resurrect downtown retail business through a mixed use project which could include residential units as well as office space currently occupying vacant storefronts along Main Street between First Avenue and Bowers Road [7].
