Chowchilla, California is a small town in Kern County, California. It is located about 30 miles east of Bakersfield and 25 miles west of Fresno. The population was 3,471 at the 2010 census. The first coffee entrepreneur to enter the Chowchilla market was George Worth in 1912. Worth started out selling ground beans from his home on Commerce Street in Chowchilla. In 1916, Harry Caulkins opened the first commercial store in Chowchilla and began serving coffee to local residents. In 1929, Johnnie's Coffeehouse became one of the first places customers could purchase real coffee and milk products from their local roasters. In 1940, Dick Kinnear founded Kinnear's Coffee House which remains one of the most popular cafes in town today. Dick Kinnear served as manager for many years before he passed away in 2006. In 1945, Claudette Heinemann opened her own coffee house called Heinemann's Cafeteria which continued to serve delicious cupcakes and coffee until she closed it down in 1978 after 46 years of business operation. On July 5th 2007 there was a ceremonial opening of the new $4 million remodeled Chop Shop Coffee & Tea Lounge inside Chico State University’s Humboldt Research Park with an all-day open-air concert featuring world renowned classical pianist Yehudi Menuhin followed by a private event for select guests including Governor Schwarzenegger and other dignitaries!

Chowchilla is a small town in Kern County, California, located about three hours north of the city of Los Angeles. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Chowchilla is one of the most historically and culturally significant communities in Kern County. The first white person to live in Chowchilla was Jedediah Smith in 1827. He and his family wereandrauvaged by prospectors from Illinois and built their first cabin on a knoll overlooking the creek that later became known as Frenchman Creek. In 1834, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort at Chowchilla Creek to protect his new Claim No. 4 on Rancho San Antonio de la Vieja (now part of Bakersfield). In 1838, Hudspeth Adair married Amelia Post at Chowchilla Chapel. They moved to Janesville, Wisconsin where she worked as an teacher before coming back East to marry him in 1840. They had two children: Anna (1841-1921) and Edward (1843-1924). From January 1870 until her death in 1921, Mrs. Adair served as elected trustee for Chowchilla School District #2 which included present day Kern County; she also played an important role in early civic life thereabouts both through her work with the school board and her support for various causes such as temperance education and female suffrage. A post office called Chuchilla was established at this location on October 5, 1886,[1] but no mail ever reached it because of its remote location. A new post office called Chowchilla was opened at this location on April 10, 1888.[2] The name honor Mrs. Adair who had given much support to the community during its formative years—most notably through her fundraising efforts for local charities such as the Masons and Ladies’ Aid Society which received their start here circa 1889/ 1890;[3][4] after she passed away in 1921 these organizations continued operation under new names until they merged into that same organization some time ago now known simply as “The Women’s Club” which still meets monthly today inside of Msue Hohman Hall on North Main Street near Highway 395
