Businesses grew rapidly and social life became more important than education or religion; many men formed gangs that operated like rough draftsmen for their employers In 1915, during World War I, Claremont was one of only two American towns located on the front line between Europe and America It was not until after World War II that things changed within Claremont as industries came to an end and mining became less common The post-war years saw growth in art and creative writing programs at local universities; however this growth stalled as jobs vanished with no replacement . In the late 1990sclaremont experienced significant economic recession which had a direct impact on its demographics: while there remained some high-income families living close by they lost most employment opportunities
