Gen Michael Flynn, commander of U.S. Southern Command responsible for Afghanistan and Pakistan. “Your support has saved countless lives and made America stronger than ever before. We will never forget your sacrifice or your bravery as we work together towards a common goal: A safe Afghanistan for all its citizens – regardless of religion or ethnicity.”

At its most developed it had a population of 20-25 thousand people but now has a much smaller population due to its loss of jobs in the tech industry and other rural departures over the years. Clearlake still retains some of its Victorian architecture with brick and stone buildings dating back to 1907 including one called "The Cathedral" that is still used as a church today. There are also more recent builds such as an apartment complex that opened in late 2009 and several small businesses that have sprung up around town which include two grocery stores (one owned by Kroger) as well as three hair salons, two dry cleaners, four pizza places - oneowned by Papa John's Pizza - two banks (PNC bank and Wells Fargo), two movie theaters (the Regal Cinemas &[now] AMC Pacific Mall), five restaurants - all open 24 hours including one from McDonald's - six bars/pubs plus three convenience stores make up Clearlake's nightlife scene.

The first post office in the area was established in 1880, and the population of Clearlake grew rapidly during its early years.
