The history of the Clearlake Army Depot began with the establishment in 1865 of an ordnance depot on Rancho San Rafael, about 12 miles northeast of downtown Clearlake. The first realignment and expansion of the Western United States Ordnance Department followed World War I, when the American Bombardment Forces shifted frommunitions stores to ammunition production. In 1924, Clearlake was chosen as one of three sites for the new ammunition plant operated by Bethlehem Steel Corporation. At that time it became one of America’s primary munitions manufacturing centers. In 1938, the Ammunition Plant Administration was created to manage all aspects of this important industry. It evolved into today’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) which is responsible for military equipment procurement, storage and distribution across country. Since its inception DLA has played a dramatic role in shaping our nation’s defense posture through acquisitions, construction and operations – including Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems at Fort Worth Airport and Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti; Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton; Qatar Missile Station; and multiple Air National Guard bases across California. Clearlake is unique among U.S. depots because it has been home to both Coast Guard stations: Naval Construction Battalion One (NCB-1) which built dockyards at Point Reyes Station;; and Coast Guard Cutter Waugh which serves as a marine patrol unit off Point Conception Bay during high winds or storm events

In 1887, when Clear Lake was first surveyed as part of Rancho La Hacienda grant to José Altamira, his family named it after John James Audubon's mentor—Sir John Aikenhead (Becker). In 1901, when Clearlake became a city charter member, its founders voted to change its name to "San Ramon". This name stuck because it included two rivers—the East Bay and Ramona rivers—both within San Ramon County. As time went on, more businesses were founded in Clearlake including an ice cream parlor called Fortunato's which opened in 1916 and still operates today; Bananasweet Chocolate Company which opened in 1949; American Dairy Products Corporation which built a plant here during World War II; Pepsi-Cola company decided to build their corporate headquarters here instead of downtown San Francisco so this area became known as "Pepsi-Land". According to some sources Walmart came into consideration for this site but they decided against it due to environmental concerns about open air shopping malls rather than large buildings with stores inside them (B ecker). However another factor that may have influenced their decision not to move HQ here was that many people working at Pepsi-Cola had bought land adjacent to what later becameanchor store Apple Inc.'s campus where they developed new factories such as tire plants (Doyle). Finally some factors considered were transportation accessibility – sites like Livermore Airport were available but very close by while HQ would be much further away –and political stability – both cities had been hit hard by hippie culture before HQ moved there –although only briefly before coming back together again (Krause) . After years of struggle through various elections referendums and lawsuits culminating in victory by Mayor Ron Conway over incumbent candidate Dick Bogue in 1978, development continued apace with construction finally concluding just prior to Christmas 1984 when all structures except one old dairy building began demolition so that land could be given over for mixed use housing developments comprising 351 homes/condos/townhouses spread over 3 blocks totaling 148 acres +/- 1 block -= 6 acres = 401 units +/- 5% parking lots +/- 2% office buildings ± 1% retail space etc., making it one of Silicon Valley’s most rapidly growing locales even today... continues: It should also be mentioned that while most people attribute growth at Silicon Valley regionally throughout the early 1980s largely due ot high tech companies moving into everlarger office parks & bringing down crime rates etc., this truly did take place within ZIP code 94736 withinSanRamonCounty.- One aspect often undervalued (& underestimated) during this period are dropouts from higher education & job placements resulting from increased commuting times from nearby BART stations -affecting not just residents commuting daily directly into SF but those working overnight shifts feeding these technology companies too -resultingin Bucklin Collegerenewing /adding courses online starting Spring 2011 thru Monday evenings

Clearlake is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Clearlake is located on the west side of Highway 101 north of Antioch and east of Livermore. The first clear lake in Contra Costa County was Clear Lake which was created by rainwater runoff from the Mount Diablo hills to the south. In 1856, John Coyle built a dam on Clear Lake and stocked it with white pike for fishing purposes. In 1872, Jack London published his book "The Call of the Wild" in Clearlake and other nearby towns around Antioch during his time as an editor for The Hearst Corporation's new weekly newspaper "Argus". This gave Clearlake its name: it comes from Calliope (a nymph), meaning 'clear water' or 'the outlet'. In 1902, three brothers – George Wigglesworth, Sidney McGillicuddy and Harry Chandler – founded what would become Pacific Telephone Company with their profits from selling phone cards across town at bus stations like Antioch Station. They named their company after one of their early customers – Clarence Barron who had bought one card for $2 at the station. Clearlake's growth continued until World War II when it went silent due to military bombing raids that destroyed many homes and businesses in town including most of the telephone companies' lines except Pacific Telephone Company which continued operations underground until 1951 thanks to wartime relocations outside Contra Costa County that left much personal property behind. Afterward, post-war suburban development increased traffic congestion on Interstate 80 near downtown while industrial conversion led to factories expanding into residential areas adjacent to highways only making matters worse: oil refineries were built next door to schools; agricultural land became cars Lots; local transportation disappeared altogether when buses stopped running on Sundays because those services were provided by Peninsula Transitway Incorporated out of San Leandro (now Muni). At various points over this period there have been efforts made by elected officials within Contra Costa County to reestablish public transportation using both bus rapid transit (BRT) technology and light rail/ Subway systems but implementation has always been complicated by zoning changes granted byengineers beholden to developers rather than citizens or elected officials who understand these issues better than they do. With few exceptions such as Measure B which would have extended BART service into portions of eastern Contra Costa County through Vallejo without any major impact on population density or business patterns however no votes have been taken since then so we can continue living our lives according to developer preferences
